Done alot of driving over the past couple of weeks.

Want to get properly rid of any traces of salt/grit build up.

Are there any dangers in power washing the underside of the car etc?

Funny you brought that topic up, thats my plan for the weekend, my car looks like a ball of shíte currently :p

I cant see any danger in power washing the underside, just dont get too close to it and possibly cause damage, salt and grit shouldn't be too hard to remove anyway.

As for power washing the outside... ye cant beat a good microfibre and some nice car shampoo :)

Washing the underside is a great idea. One thing to be aware of, do not spray directly at electrical parts (i.e. starter motor) at all. Just give it a brief fly-over.

Hope your not taking Met Eireanns word for it there Jaffa. If they said it'll snow I expect bbq weather! :D

Seriously though I'm with ya no point in giving the car a proper clean in this weather.

It'll pass though give it a week or two and we'll have the rain and wind again. Then a few more snow falls in January and back to more wind, rain a few months of summer, more wind and rain for the Autumn and then the odd snow shower again come winter.

God I should work for Met Eireann!!! :pac:

Don't power wash too much around the bearings or any other moving part, you could force the lubrication out.

The only issue is they'll be salting the roads many more times this winter and if it doesn't rain heavy then the salt will get onto the car again.

How do you get snow off the car without scratching the car?

And without making the drive an ice slide?

Because snow melting off the roof is refreezing on my windscreen.

A soft brush, then you need to shovel the snow off the drive.

I kinda meant when its kinda frozen to the car. Brush ain't doing it. But I take the point for snow.

Stick the heater on full blast until then slide the lumps of ice off.

Took almost 2hrs to drive to work this am, and there was still ice stuck to the car when I stopped. Not seen that before though....

I'm hoping for a mild-ish day at the weekend ...my van is so salty, it wouldn't be out of place in Utah.
When power-washing the car, do clean the underside, but don't overdo it. Some of these commercial power washers are so strong they'll strip the protective coating right off ...so don't hold the lance too close.

Also, afterwards, don't forget to re-treat those door locks with WD40 and the door rubbers with silicone/vaseline

heat rises and metal conducts heat.
