Short word search problem

When I search for 'UPC' and 'STB' in the Cable & Dig TV forums I get a complaint that the works are too short! Is there some way to overcome this as these TLA's are very common on tech forums? Ta.

UPC* and STB* should would. 3 letter searches cause too much strain on the systems.
