Seriously though, even if it WAS in grey instead of black it would still be an up front statement of a connection fee ...... something which none of the other big players even do.

Looking forward to my own install coming up next week. :)

Make sure you confirm its available in your area. I hear that its only available in a small amount of places in Dublin, More to be activated throughout Q1 of next year.

you're late, where have you been all day? :)

it was in a small light grey font earlier as dub45 already said, both smaller and lighter than the current bit about the €7.75 no tv surcharge BUT now they've changed it.

I guess they do watch the forum after all. :)

The one off charge is still appearing in a "small light grey font". However when you are in love I suppose everything looks nice and shiny and golden and its hard to see the little grey bits.

I presume that the "connection" charge is for new customers and the "one off cost" is for existing customers?

is it worth seeing if they upgrade existing customers as a xmas pressie ! :)

With UPC? New customers would have been luckier than existing ones!

What are you talking about? The font and print are EXACTLY the same as the rest of the description???? If you are going to try and nit pick tbh its falling on deaf ears - at the very least try not to just make s**t up that can be proved wrong with a click.

    See attachment

Your "pic" refers to the "connection charge" If you actually decended from your hightower long enough (where the lack of oxygen seriously affects your judgement) you would see that I referred to the "once off cost".

I chose next week as I have a day off. I am a busy man and 100mb will allow me do what I already to a multipal of times faster so I can get on with the really important things in life. My usage wont change but the speed at what I already do will increase a lot.

I read the terms and conditions, informed myself on the product before buying and never enter into any contract without doing the same.

I bought a windows OS phone 3 weeks ago and took my sweet time doing exactly the same thing, no matter who I am entering into a contract with it is still ME entering into it. If everyone else managed to do the same a lot of hassle can be avoided.

Does this mean that eircom will have to stop using the phrase "next generation broadband" since this completely wipes any service they are likely to offer in the foreseeable future ?

Not to mention that eircom's NGB is already a generation behind what is being rolled out on phone lines in the UK

Are UPC still due to test gigabit in the next six months ?

Eircom's NGB at its absolute best is still 6Mb slower than I was getting here, for less money, 24 months ago. Granted there's technically contention on the UPC 30MB but it rarely affects my speed or latency.

    Go figure.

Ok lads, there's already a rather large thread about UPC's caps/FUP so can we get back on topic on this thread.

Feel free to discuss it all you want here - http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055484124

    @ hightower1

Few questions if you don't mind.

If you ordered its obviously available in your area - do you mind me asking where that is?
Also did you have to renew your contract when you upgraded?
They didn't confirm what they would be replacing your cisco box with no?
    thanks a mill

No more questions your honour :D

    i know, me too! :)

its like someone saying they spent time doing lots of research into what dvd player to buy and then went out and bought a Video CD player. :pac:

btw, looks like UPC are putting up prices on the lower broadband products (not the 30mbps so far tho) and the tv & phone too.

I love that the upc site has

8mb - suitable for light users who use the internet to email .....
15mb - suitable for users who regularly download large files such as music....
30mb - suitable for hose who need super-fast speeds to download large videos..
100mb - doesn't say who its suitable for

Cause you know, and I know who it's suitable for.... :D

<facepalm> , what yor referring to is windows mobile OS.....

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Mobile

    Not windows phone OS.....

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Phone_7

Windows phone OS is the newest windows OS for any device.
Released just over 3 months ago and is hardly a VCR as you put it.
My own is an Omnia 7, super OMLED screen and N class wifi built in... more like 1080p than VCR. - Troll fail -

    < back on topic>

    @ mjmc

I'm based in limerick myself, I called to order but apparently my own line is in testing right now and I was offered to test it. They are upping my 30mb to 100, new modem / router. Trialing til 15 Jan and after if I am happy I will leave as is.
So I cant say if a "regular" purchase would change contract or anything.

Just got a call from the specialist team who ran me throught "this is what you need to be able to get this". He than told me what the new price is. Very good sales process.

Than he offered me an appointment for Tuesday and I took it.

Now I hope the installer will install it where I want and not at the current point of entry to the house. I want this up in the office as it's a router with lan ports. With the modem only option I have a powerline solution, but with the new way I want the router up here. The sales person was "he will do that that for you" but I have a wait and see approach.

I'm in swords for those who track where 100 is available.

Get in! that's what i want to hear.

Anything interesting in the "this is what you need to be able to get this" part?

Did they just ring you out of the blue if you dont mind me asking?

Go the call back and to get this speed you need an N wireless adapter. How can you see this check the network adapters and all I have is

    Atheros 50056gs wireless network adapter
Atheros L1 Gigabit Ethernet 10/100/1000base-T controller
    Microsoft virtual Wifi miniport adapter

Also require 2gb of ram or higher and 2 gh Processor where can I check this?

if you don't have this then speed is 54

The €80 is for both existing and new customers. They are doing no deals with tv or phone did not ask about contract

Anyone tell me how I can find out the above as I can get it in my area

    Ta

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 949 ✭✭✭M.J.M.C

You should be able to tell by going into the Atheros 50056gs wireless network adapter properties

Also you can find the ram & cpu by right clicking my computer and going to properties

no, i know exactly what i was referring to. i've been watching its development for quite a while and laughing a how badly MS are failing with it and your defensive response to your windows phone fail OS makes it even funnier.:pac:

your phone hardware specs are great though, its just a shame you're lumbered with a crappy beta OS to run on it. they should have called it "vista phone edition" instead and i should have compared it to buying a betamax video, although betamax was actually better than vhs, so its not a fair comparison.

maybe you'll luck out and MS will bridge the massive 3 year gap in features that they are currently running behind iOS and Android. you could still give a 1st gen iphone a run for its money tho if you know anyone who still has one. too little too late from MS and people are still falling for the hype.

    anyway, back on topic. :)

the atheros one is the wireless adapter as you can see, but was the 6 a typo? i can only find a AR5005GS which is a 54mbps wireless G adapter.

you can get wireless N adapters very cheaply though and a USB one isn't going to need you to open the case or anything, you just plug it in and install the drivers.

another option if you're close to where the modem will be is to run an ethernet cable between your pc and the modem which will happily carry the full speed of the 100mbps as both the router and your PC have gigabit ethernet.

if you right click on "my computer" you can see how much ram you have and our CPU speed, but the figures they are giving you are not hard and fast specs required for it to work, there is a lot of wriggle room, they are just trying to cover their bases asses so they don't have someone with a really crappy pc trying to get 100mbps and then complaining when they can't get the full speed.
Working windows 7 where else can I cehck for the ram and cpu
you can still right click on my computer and go to properties in windows 7. if you don't ave my computer on the desktop, do it from the start menu or hold down the windows key and press the E key and you'll see my computer listed on the left hand side of the explorer window.

yes boss (to both statements). :pac:

give it a few days and all the speedtest sites are going to have a sh1t fit! :D

BTW Cabaal, is there any chance of merging the different 100mbps UPC threads, there's a few of them at this stage and they're all basically the same thing. :)

A question if I may to any UPC 30 meg users. They just recently upgraded the lines in my area so it will be available soon. I'm with Eircom,an 8 meg, lots of router red lights and congestion, it's drives me bonkers. Does UPC's service suffer the same crap?
