Not too unusual on a high performance yoke that's 8 years old.

LOL, it's not mine (I wish). I'm sure saying from a buyers point of view, it doesn't get much better than buying a car that literally seems to need nothing, and has a FSH, with low miles to boot!

Surely it's grossly overpriced, no way would I value that at €6000 more than my ZT, which the Mondeo wouldn't be losing in the twisties either me thinks.

Nice car though. I was watching an old Top gear yesterday and he test drove it. Very impressive. That one is crazy money..

I agree, I like em an all, but not at that premium. It's a 3L petrol mondeo in Ireland, he'll be waiting a long time, even tho it does look well looked after.

Maybe overpriced, but it's still way more attactive than a smokey old Rover ;)

lol, my smokey ole ZT at €2250 is a far better purchase than that overprised blue oval badged yoke. I reckon the Mondeo would struggle to outhandle a ZT too. Also from a purely attractiveness view point the Mondeo looks sh1te compared to an MG ZT.

I'd be torn on which I like more, probably leaning towards the MG. In estate version, the Mg a thousand times over

I don't think it's such a great deal either. 220BHP meh and still pay 3l motor tax. For not that much more money you'd have an early E39 M5. There's 400BHP for ya in a proper sports saloon.

Nice unbiased post as usual James. The Mondeo ST220 is streets ahead of the ZT.

    That reminds me,

I wasn't refering anything to the car or the add, more the point of it's a car you could buy and have nothing to do or worry about... Evidently you pay a premium for that, lol.

I said the Mondeo would struggle to leave it in the twisties and that at €8300 the Mondeo is overpriced, I fail to see the bias there old boy. You'd better stop now though, the last time we had a chat you got a ban iirc :D

Detail how it is streets ahead ? Performance ?? Handling ?? Looks ?? Build quality ??

Wasn't you who got banned, apologies for that. I see your a member a month, hardly here long enough to make comments about me being biased or otherwise. You reckon that Mondeo is value at €8300 so ?

Yes but that's a BMW and most performance Ford owners prefer the blue badge.

I agree with RJ, it seems overpriced compared to other machines on the market.

I wouldn't be interested in that car at 4grand, let alone 8.

As said earlier, you'd get a good M5 for 10k'ish.

Yep, any decent performing Ford that folks drive about in now registered in the 00s is Volvo powered. If it wasn't for the like of Volvo, Cosworth and Yamaha poor ole Ford would never have made a performance car, except for the XR3i of course......

Ah the 75, such a fantastic car, the world's motoring press lauded it as the greatest car ever to roll on four tyres, it was bought in droves by the public which led Rover to become the worlds number 1 car manufacturer, oh hang on.....

The standard Mondeo (the model referred to in this thread) was in fact praised by Europe's motoring hacks for it's fine handling so I can only assume the ST handled pretty sweetly too.

So you reckon an MG ZT doesn't handle exceptionally well ? My comments have stated that the Mondeo wouldn't lose the ZT on a challenging road and that a 2002 ST is not at all worth €6000 more than a 2002 ZT. Have you driven either a Mondeo or a 75/ZT of any sort ? If you reckon that Mondeo is such a great car why don't you buy it for €8000 ? Are you going to tell us what you drive ? Also any comments on your experience with cars to dissuade me from thinking you are yet another "enthusiast" from the HonestJohn & TopGear school ?

    loll

    ladz

    behave...:D

Its way over priced, 4 grand I think it would be lucky to go for, but it does look very good.

as for a M5, well that is streets and streets ahead so its not a valid comparison.

For me, I am not overly excited with a 3 litre pumping out 'just', 220 horses....

Can't speak for anyone else but I wouldn't buy a BMW, I wouldn't refuse a drive in one all the same. I'd pay about €5k for the Ford and save save the rest instead of throwing €10k away on a M5.

As said already you're comparing two very different things.

Might not lose a ZT, but would definitely be in front. I'm driving 22 years, I've driven so many different cars I've lost count though I have settled into the VAG family over the last number of years but I still think I have a slightly more balanced view of the motoring world than someone who calls themselves RoverJames (not having a go, simply pointing out the bias). I'm not in the market for an 8K Motor and if I was I certainly wouldn't be looking on donedeal or gumtree.

It's an ID on a forum. In the last two years I've had a BMW, Honda & a Merc as well as one or two Rovers. My view of the motoring world is very balanced, your posts in this thread show yours to be anything but.

CBG is only a dealers site these days from my experience, why would you only be interested in dealers, if you know your stuff you'd be far better off buying private, especially from an enthusiast.

I suppose it'd all depend on what you're looking for? if it was specialist stuff I look to the specialists or owners clubs. I'm long past the point of buying everyday runarounds out of the classifieds.

I wouldn't necessarily class an ST as an everyday runaround but you'd find it hard to find a dealer with them in stock, they're a rare enough beastie.

All the more reason to try and track one down tru an owners club (AFAIK there is a Fast Ford owners club) rather than a classified? That's provided you're in the market for an ST220!

@James, don't forget Bugatti and Lamborghini too.
You seem to have closed off the top of the VAG family a tad early.

BTW, it's completely irrelevant what I drive now, I didn't bring any opinion about my car to this post unlike you.

You brought no opinion of what you drive but referred to what I drive as a heap of sh1t for no good reason only to stir sh1t. Due to you not wanting to reveal what you are driving I think we can discount it being a Bugatti or a Lambo. The only opinion I brought was that I reckoned the ST was not worth €6000 more than my ZT, hardly a provocative comment.

My opinion of Rovers as sh!theaps is purely personal, we all have our likes and dislikes when it come to wheels, if you take it as sh!tstirring, that's your problem. Good luck!
