not sure if this is in the right place.... but anyhow, a friend of mine has recently recieved his driving licence after a 4 year ban... and is looking to get back on the road... his licence now carries an endorsement also...
has any one got any ideas how he'll get back driving for the least amount of money as possible... his own policy... as named driver... or on some one else's open drive(if that'd work)... any input would be greatfully appreciated by my friend....

Moved to the main motors forum.

I can't imagine insurance is going to be cheap. Ringing around to brokers and insurance companies is the best way to get quotes for himself. Also, companies like excess direct could be an option, which would provide comparatively cheap quotes, but as their name suggests, the excesses can be very high.

A 4 year ban is heavy duty.

He needs to get on the phone to as many decent motor brokers as possible. It'll be very expensive though I suspect.

I'd say it could be like trying to talk your way out of a room with no doors...
I cannot imagine the word cheap coming into the equation.

Try ARB insurance also; when I started driving they used to specialize in high risk policies. Very expensive tho.

the person is obviously high risk if they were banned for 4 years

If someone is just back from a 4 year driving ban then they are just about as high a risk as you can be.

4 Years? Who did he kill??

afaik if people are refusing you insurance, you need written letters of refusal from 3 or more companies. After that, insurers are obliged to quote you (seeing as insurance is a legal requirement). It's usually expensive as hell because that's their way of telling you to **** off.

    I may have imagined this....
