Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What is the best Catholic book you've ever read? What book are you reading right now?

For me, one of the best books I've had the pleasure of reading (my mind goes blank:P) would be I BELIEVE IN LOVE by Fr. Jean Elbee. It is a spiritual retreat based on the writings of St. Therese of Lisieux. It is wonderful.

There was also the life-changing THE PERFECT JOY OF ST. FRANCIS by Felix Timmermans. It had a profound effect on me: after reading that book, I found myself much less materialistic.

So, tell us about your life-changing books!

(Please note that I am only looking for positive, pro-Catholic contributions about good Catholic books. If you have criticism, please do not hijack my thread. You can start your own thread.

I'd be the first to admit pure theological books cause MEGO. Books that I've enjoyed which had had a Catholic element tend to be fictional - such as "Speaker for the Dead" by Orson Scot Card, "The High Crusade" by Paul Anderson, or Tolkein's work.
However two non-fiction books I've enjoyed which dealt with religion were
1- Orthodoxy by Chesterton, though he had not converted at this stage
2-Journey to Easter: Spiritual Reflections for the Lenten Season by the current Pope.

    I really enjoyed this:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Case-Pope-Vatican-Accountability-Rights/dp/0241953847/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1292108002&sr=1-1

It gives a very interesting insight in the the workings of the RCC and what they will do to protect their simple followers from those of other or no faith.

A real eye opener, and highly recomended.

Right well there is a lot that could be said about Mr Robertson, but this thread ain't the place to do it.

Now if you're done hijacking my thread, I'll have some valid contributions from genuine Catholics.

(Mods, please adjust my thread title to 'Pro-Catholic responses only'. I don't want to exclude the literary contributions from sincere non-Catholics who may have read good Catholic books.)

Imitations of Christ is a great book.

recently I have read ''Alone and on foot'' a book about St.Ignatius. Very good and well researched.

We can make it a Catholic Only thread if you wish - but we can't limit conversation to be purely expressing one viewpoint. A Catholic Only thread also allows Catholics to express dissenting opinions.

you could put an edit note on your opening post to specify the type of response you are expecting.

I look forward to some of the responses as the only one I've read so far is the Bible - and I haven't finished it yet
