I don't really understand the advantage to Xbox of having it released first, surely it's not going to make any difference to sales?

If you have both PS3 and 360, and wanted to buy Skyrim knowing the DLC is being released 1 month earlier on 360...

    Which would you choose?

I gave up on Oblivion very early on (still did all the Dark Brotherhood missions though!) but I am really enjoying Skyrim so far.

Got to Whiterun this morning and its taken me hours just to explore the place.

Quick question. I see there is the option of two quests in the misc section, join the Storm cloaks or join the Empire (I actually am an imperial but dunno if that matters) but I assume that I can only do one of these?

It is irritating having to wait an extra month for the DLC to arrive on PC.

Those sort of marketing stunts by Microsoft put me off the Xobx platform more than anything.

Yeah, it's one of the few 'either or' quests in the game. It's the 2nd main quest of the game, and goes on for quite a while regardless of who you side with.

    Cool.

I'll hold off making the choice for as long as possible so.

    Thanks.

fallout was kinda the same, even with a load of mods installed
towards the end the only things that were giving me a challenge were the brotherhood of steel.. those ****ers took some killing

I'm beginning to experience the same scenario, having decided to dip back into the game after a prolonged absence. I don't know about anyone else, but part of my own near-invincibility is due to a hoarding / perfectionist instinct: whilst nominally I'm supposed to be a thief & assassin, specialising in bows, I have collected so many swords, maces & spells to fall back on, there are few scenarios I can't escape from. Hell, I have a go-to weapon in the Sanguine Rose - easily the biggest "I win" button in the game (it's a staff that
summons a Dremora lord, who can kick most creatures' asses & becomes their main focus of attack
    )

So in considering that, I think the key to avoiding the difficulty plateau is to commit to the 'Role' part of RPG. I dumped a lot of my inventory & started avoiding items, perks and upgrades that had nothing to do with my character's specific persona; the only time I would pick up a sword would be to sell it later on.

Admittedly my game is also loaded with mods (although no crashes to be reported, so not sure what's happening with you RopeDrink), including one that introduces dozens of new & deadly monsters, but suddenly the game feels more of a challenge because I can't simply spam my way out of a problem; I have to box clever.

This is why I try to level up everything in the game, by swapping around what I fight with. Sure I can kill anything with magic but I dont use it because I'm busy being **** at archery and swords and and.... Things can 2 hit me and I have great difficulty killing them.

Slightly off topic but can anyone tell me if the GOTY or 5th anniversary editions of Oblivion contain all extra DLC on the disc or do I have to download them? Like if I buy it 2nd hand, dlc on the disc is crucial, otherwise i'd just buy it new.

Only asking as gf is completely finished Skyrim and PS3 won't be getting dawnguard for a while so gonna get Oblivion to tide her over.

    Thanks.

Only the GOTY Deluxe on Steam includes all DLC. The ordinary GOTY only has The Shivering Isles and Knight of the Nine. This applies to all formats I believe. I hadn't heard of the 5th Anniversary version but it looks to be the same as the GOTY.

Looked on the wiki - I didn't realise that the Alduin chain in Sovengarde was the absolute end - There were no credits or anything, just left wide open, so I've basically been running around doing bugger all but sidemissions anytime I played >.<

Talk about not seeing the elephant in the room! :pac:

Looking forward to getting back into this with Dawngaurd out tomorrow. Time to dust off my near invincible Nord Archer.

Question 1: Where can I find stone statues in the game? Preferably not the big Goddess ones

Question 2:Where can I find the Lizard ppl? I feel like killing some lizard ppl

Lads I am on level 16 and getting my ass kicked every which way, how can I level up without impacting on missions?

is the steam workshop the best place to get mods for this or skyrim nexus?

i dont know if I'll stick with it but i'm upgrading soon and I can't think of a better game to test it all out than skyrim.

well metro 2033 maybe but that's just gona look grimier and browner, skyrim at least has vistas and rivers.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,172 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

Steam Workshop is probably the easiest way to get mods, but there are some great ones that are only available on Skyrim Nexus. And no, not the nude mods you filthy beggers! :P

I generally use Steam Workshop, and then pick and choose some from Nexus.

Anyone know what kind of extra content is in dawnguard hours wise? Is it a short 2-3 hour extension or are we talking shivering isles length?

I don't think its quite Shivering Isles length, but am open to correction on this, but there is supposedly 8 to 10 hours in Dawngaurd.

And I think it can be played through at least twice, because it has 2 unique skill trees that can't be used at the same time.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,414 ✭✭✭Fluffy88

And two unique quest lines that can't be played together, similar to the Empire v Stormclocks quest line.

feck arse around until you have levelled up a bit and then take another go at it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,414 ✭✭✭Fluffy88

I sat on top of the rocks around the troll and kept hitting it with arrows/magic until it died ... I was there a looong time :)
At low levels those Ice trolls are seriously strong.

Is anybody else worried that it's release day and we don't have a single review of this... Not a good sign imo.

DLC stuff isn't normally reviewed before its release is it?

I thought reviews of DLC start popping after its release date, same as some downloadable titles.

Meh, wouldn't bother playing one and never noticed there were so few Liz-Men. There's one hanging around some distant shore like a bum that you can assassinate for the Dark Brotherhood, one helps you in your quest for the Blades, two in Riften working a pub I believe and a few others.

If you want to take out your frustrations, don't bother making the Argo's extinct, just blame Lydia... Quite liked this - It's also so true... Started over a new game with a hawt Red Guard female and gone more for 2Handers rather than my previous "I AM INVINCIBLE" stealth-archery and just got Lydia again... So this really does spring to mind...

I still love Lydia but I wont marry her this time - Completely ruined her by marrying her AND putting her into the Blades on my previous game, ended up just killing her myself in the end as she was worthless after all that, wouldn't wear anything but blades armor, overburdened due to the shop + my gear + blade gear so couldn't even use her as a mule, even if she was the best meatshield ever.

''I am swooorn to carry your burdens.'' Yeah, you are. Now do it without the sarcasm, ya cow. I Fus Ro Dah'd her off the Winterhold Cliffs into the sea when I got sick of hearing that phrase.
