Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm travelling through dubai airport (connecting flight) this weekend and wanted some help on the customs there.

I'm aware of the strict drug laws in dubai, my question is that I travel with a laptop and external hard drives full of movies, tv shows, music etc. that I've copied from people over the years.

Can customs search the files stored on my hard drives?? As they are pirate versions for my personal use, should I be worried??

I know that in Australia, they can look through the content of your laptop or hard drive if they so wish. I don't know if this is the case in Dubai, but I'd imagine it's the same all over the world. Maybe as it's only a connecting flight they won't be too concerned.

They will have no interest in copyright issues/ pirated movies or music. They are only interested in stuff like child pornography, terrorist plots and bomb making videos etc etc.

dont worry, you wont have any trouble in Dubai.
Unless you are black/other ethnicity that they may not take a liking to. In which case, they may just pull you in, search you thoroughly and possibly do you for pornography if you have anything they consider pornographic on your drive. Unlikely though, unless you look like a rasta. I´ve entered Dubai a bunch of times, never been stopped.

Thank you for your replies, I'm mainly concerned with copyright issues regarding copied movies, tv shows etc.

I do not possess any anarchist, terrorist, peado material.

Never been there, but in a country where they can throw you in prison for possession of codeine, I was slightly worried!

been through customs a few times there & as long as you've no porn dvd's or mag's you'll be alrite, any external hard drives you should pack in your checked in suitcase,

You could always use TrueCrypt to create an encrypted virtual drive on your laptop. It is mounted and unmounted with a password.

So you could create eg. a 30Gb encrypted file container.
When mounted with the proper password it looks like another drive to store your movies in.
When unmounted, it looks like a 30Gb file on your local drive, and you can name it to anything, eg. random.dat
