Hi I was horrified yesterday to learn that my local christmas tree sellers had all upped their prices by 10euros! I'm disgusted with them, a verty average tree cost me 45 euros

when I asked them why the trees had gone up he said it was becuase Christmas trees were scarce...did anyone else find this??

He is right, a neighbour harvests trees, and he hasn't been able to get them down from the wicklow mountains at all because of the snow.

I went to buy a tree last week, the guy wanted 45 so i told him i would give him forty.
    He wouldn't take it.
He wouldn't take a penny of it, so i told him to keep it.
As i was walking away he called me back.
He said that the price of the tree's have gone up by 10 euro since last year, where he used to get them for 16euro he now has to pay 26!
I told him to definatly keep his tree as the one i bought last year was 45 euro and the same size! He actually thought i was going to feel sorry for him even though he ripped me off last year and he is still making a 73% mark-up this year. I got a nicer one elsewhere for cheaper in the end.

I wonder why they have gone up though? and they say the cost of living has gone down :(

still no reason to charge more though...

:(I was actually expecting them to be cheaper this year, wont be long before everyone moves to get fake tree cause they're cheaper long term.

Aye, fake one ftw - find one you like, and use the same one every year, not having to worry about getting a "bad tree"...

The smell and look of a real tree is way to nice for me to ever consider a fake one but price could determine everything in the end.

Of course it is. He still has to cover his costs, with fewer trees, so he charges the retailer more.

Very basic supply and demand economics.

Were I get mine normally charges €30, but I buy 2 and get them both for €50, went in this year and they were a different tree, said that the normal supplier could not get them down from wicklow mountains due to the snow and was going to loose a packet this season, said the trees he was selling had been imported from France, he would not drop from €30 each as they were costing him more.
