Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So, very little detail on this one, coupled with the fact I am a beginner at bird identifying...

But anyway, up on Killiney hill yesterday I saw a bird land on a tree near me that looked very odd/cool. The bird was roughly the size, and general shape of a pigeon, but very RED. The colour was very similar to what I searched and found to be a "pine grosbeak"

But the bird in question had a white and black tail and was maybe a shade more towards orange, and definitely had more of a pigeon-esque shape to it overall.

Love to know what you guys think. Didn't look like anything I have seen before.

    A Jay?

It certainly wasn't a Pine Grosbeak as they are finch size rather than Wood Pigeon size.

Got to be a Jay with perhaps a trick of lighting making it look more red

Seems the most likely suspect alright, looks very similar. Very cool creature, a bit too exotic looking to be believed to be Irish!

Killiney hill comes up trumps again :-)
