Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Speedlite EX270 - Worth Buying?

Basically I have the money to buy a flash atm but the best one that I can see in my price range is the EX270. Is it worth buying? I'd be sticking it on a 40D and using it mostly for portraits and gig shots. I don't currently have any particularly long lenses.

I read a couple of reviews saying it's not worth the buy and is only a glorified built in flash. The thing is I can't afford the EX430 for at least another 4 or 5 months. So is it worth it to buy it now and then maybe a year down the line pick up the 430? Or will I be feeling it's limits in a couple of months?

Have you considered third party makes? Like Yongnuo? they're flashes are decent and fit all makes and models [bar Sony I believe?]

I got a Yongnuo-460 on ebay for under €40 [ok, I had to pay another €13 to customs, but still cheap]

I just bought a set of triggers to fire it off cam, €18, again on the bay. Cheap set up that works perfectly, haven't had one miss-fire yet.

I know a few people that use a Sigma flash on their cameras with no complaints. On warehouse express, this one is only £20 more than the Canon 270EX. Might be worth a look. http://www.warehouseexpress.com/buy-sigma-ef-530-st-dg-flashgun-canon-fit/p1020689

I recently bought the 580exii, and would really recommend saving for that one rather than the 430exii. Although, don't put in the investment for the 580exii unless you know you will use it.

I could be wrong but isnt the 270 basically to compensate for the lack of built in flash on bodies like the 5d? Ive never used one but it does seem tiny compared to a 550 or 430. Youd probably get a second hand 580ex 1 or 550ex for the same price as a new 430 if that interested you.
