    Hey all,

I have a dvd writer and avi files,

Just wondering is their any software that can burn the avi's onto a dvd and be able to play the dvds on a standard dvd player?

I've looked through the essential downloads list but not sure which would suit this task

    Any help would be appriciated

agreed, the speed depends on the processor but this converts and burns, simple to use!

Tbh convertx2dvd is one of the best. Basically click convert and pop in blank DVD and walk away for an hour or two depending on the size of avi. You don't need Nero afaik.

you can try Aneesoft DVD Creator, it can can import different video formats (even HD videos) such as AVI, MP4, WMV, FLV, DivX, VOB, M2TS and MKV for outputting to home movie DVDs, as well as create DVD folders and ISO image files.

If you want something completely free & legal... well, as a two step process.

There's DVD Flick to convert one or more avi files into the DVD folder structure ie. the VIDEO and AUDIO folders.

Then I use CDBurnerXP to burn the output of that to DVD.
Ensure you finalise the disk, otherwise some DVD Players won't read it.

There's an older freeware version of the same software here
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/audio_video/convert_video/vso_divxtodvd_free.cfm

It obviously doesn't have some of the fancy bells N whistles found on the newer shareware versions but it does the job nonetheless. :D

Great, thanks for the replies. Had contemplated converting the avi files before burning them but that would take forever! I'll check out the links provided :)

If you have a compatible dvd player or PS3/Xbox360 you can usually get away with just burning your avi files to cd/dvd as data or slapping them on a USB flash drive. Connect those up to your players and you're golden.

    There's no need for conversions.

A quick google of the make/model of your DVD player will confirm if it's compatible.
