The skeff - on eyre square

Monroes pub - across the bridge down by Jurys Inn, up to the right.

If you're looking for coffee/sandwiches/etc - Java's is pretty good. It's across from Central Park (CPs) nightclub, just off shop street

    :)

The Skeff? Are you serious? The worst food i ever had. Ceasar sald was horrid. Only lettuce - bacon old and smelly, no trace of parmezan.
I gave them the second chance - and it was just as bad the other time.

Friends, out on the Dublin Road, does nice enough food. Well, at least their fry-ups are delicious.

Ya if you want black fatty chicken, never go back again.

Do McSwiggans do lunch? Their dinners are lovely.

La salsa's pretty good, or the wa cafe!

Morgans is really good or the Cellar. Cheap & Cheerful..

Have to give McSwiggans props for their bar food/menu. Their a la carte is overpriced but the bar food is really great and not that extravagant. Warm Mediterranean Chicken Salad is amazing.

Providence, I've eaten there once and wasn't impressed. I got the mezze plate which was recommended by someone but it was a bit of a mess. Their homemade hummus was great though. My friend had a wrap which was delicious....maybe I was just unlucky.

Cafe Luna do really nice unpretentious food.

Goyas can be hit and miss with lunch food.

Home Plate is great for a filling and cheap lunch.

Revive is good but expensive, and in the one across from Debenhams they have a couple of really sour staff!

Sam Baileys is really nice but also quite expensive!

Stay away from the GBC whatever ye do...........

I had the christmas dinner there the other day and was not impressed. All the courses arrived within minutes, so it clearly wasn't cooked to order. Small bowl of run of the mill veg soup for starter, literally half a roast spud, 2 scoops of mash and a couple slices of turkey + 1 of ham served with watery green beans and carrots (no sprouts). Got the trifle for desert, was unlike any trifle I'd ever had, basically just a small jelly. Girlfriend got the xmas pudding which was ok however both deserts were covered in custard (didn't mention this on the menu) so I just left it.

€22.50 each, wasn't worth much more than a tenner.

Actually I'm not sure if it's what you had in mind but Vina Mara have a good deal at the mo. You get a starter, main & dessert for €19.50 at lunch & coffee too. Top notch food..

Mustard has great meal deals too & the small sized burgers are a bit lighter if you're going for lunch..

not strictly in town centre but the Huntsman (beside the eye cinema) is fabulous.

also again not strictly in town, but capones in knocknacarra is great.

Try Monroe's in town - great value lunchs/dinner and none of this gourmet portion sizes - you probably won't need to eat for the rest of the day after eating there.

    these threads always amuse me.

they show up the demographics on the Galway board.

You have students who like one thing...cheap, cheerful and nearly always dreadful.

The late 20s to early 30s who like another, bit more sophisticated but limited.

The older age groups who like something completely different.

For me they just show how limited the food offer in Galway is compared to other cities. How basically **** it is, whether it's lunch or dinner, there are only about 3 decent restaurants in the city.

But back to the original topic...for me it's the cafe at the museum. Run by the people who brought you the food at Bar no 8. Dynamic, innovative and different!!

Vina Mara's lunch-time €10 menu does it for me. Every dish's very nice.

Eight have a café in the museum in spanish arch.
Food is great and the baked goods are insanely good.
Best coffee I've had in town too, not surprising really, best chef in the city runs the place.
