Is there a way to get out of an O2 contract?

I've been with O2 for a long time now (had to change to their network - long story) and find them to be very expensive. I've got about 12 months remaining on a contract, an iPhone and two mobile broadbands. I know there was a thing in June/July when you could get out, I missed the boat on that one. Is there any other way…

Is there any other way of getting out of the contract without paying the remaining months?

Also, what exactly does porting entail?

Finally, can I buy top-up credit to use on my billpay phone?
