I nicked this idea from the Rush Needs You Facebook page, I seen one of the posters there had posted a video from the Pathe archive of the 1963 crash at Rush-Lusk station. So I am going to post a few links in this thread of any archived film footage I come across. I encourage anyone else to do the same.

The race was run on a circuit between Skerries-Rush-Lusk and finished back in Skerries. All of the footage filmed appears to be of Skerries.

YES Its a charity cycle that took place back in 1983. The cycle was organised by Drumquin Wolfetones a G.A.A from Co Tyrone and went from Rush to Drumquin. The connection was Brendan Harpur a native of Drumquin who moved to Rush in 1979 to live in Brookfield. The cycle took place again this year, back about 6 weeks ago with just 120 -130 taking part in aid of Tyrone hospice. The bikes were delivered down on trucks while the cyclists got bus down and set off again from St. Maurs.

Brendan also organised an indoor cycle race in the community center back in the 80s and I will ask him if it is on film, I think some of it was recorded. Laurence Roche brother of Stephen Roche launched it.

Just another little snippet, Brendan's father Paddy was a fantastic man. He had no sight but with the help of Brendan wrote a good book Carrick in my time and recorded a song "The hills above Drumquin" which you can hear on youtube

Sunday 5th May 2013 sees the re-run of the iconic Dublin to Drumquin 115 mile cycle that took place on 27th August 1983. Leaving Dublin's St. Maurs GAA in Rush we will retrace the roads that twenty eight hardy cyclist took thirty years ago.
