I think one thing that MT and indeed all of us need to learn is that even with everything in our favour in this small country it rarely snows.
It was the same throughout my childhood, one spell of snow a year was usually our lot. I'm afraid forecasts of several cm's widespread throughout the country are pie in the sky
We often slate Met Eireann for being conservative but more often or not it's ourselves who get egg on our face

Anyway small chance of snow tonight in Cork before the 'frostfall' takes place.

a question for those in the know ,last night the irish sea brewed up/beefed up serious showers that hit west coast of england(liverpool ect) so why not tonight into the east of ireland when winds change:confused:

For all Cork fans, developments off the coast.
Could fall as rain though as winds are on-shore.
    Chance of snow too:)

You are right that it rarely snows in this country. But this is the third signifcant snowfall event in 2010 and with the synoptics in the current cold spell anything was/is possible and a lot of this island have seen a lot of snow. The likelyhood of a nationwide severe snowfall was very likely, and although unfortunately for some it hasn't come to pass, there's still plenty of potential in the coming days and no real sign of a breakdown in sight. So for now I'm gonna continue summoning magic pie size snowflakes in the sky.

Latest satellite imagery shows some convection off the east coast. It indicates that those showers are growing in strength:)

Could be another cm in it for a few parts between Dundalk and Dublin? Terrible clutching at straws here!

Was looking at that, but think it'll be another false dawn... breaking up before landfall... but we can dream.
