Right, you have a northely surface wind, if so, showers wont steer off course, showers follow 850 or upper winds, which are NE, and arn't due a change.

Just wondering why then has all the activity suddenly dies with the change in surface wind ? I get that the showers follow the 850 or upper winds but do you need the surface winds to create the activity ?

i'm no expert but i think streamers are formed when the cold air moves across warmer water....the greater the difference in tempature the big and faster they form......something similar to lake effect.

Thanks but I was wondering if its the surface winds that cause this effect or the 850 or higher but I guess its the surface wind and then the direction is determined by the 850 or higher ?

Edit - Actually I think I found my answer in that link you posted.
If directional shear between the surface and 700 mb level is greater than 60 degrees, nothing more than flurries can be expected at the most. If the directional shear between the bathtub and 700 mb level is between 30 and 60 degrees, weak lake-effect bands are possible. In environments where the shear is less than 30 degrees strong, well organized bands can be expected

So I guess the directional shift between the surface and 850's is the reason development stops ?

I think she would probably prefer a legally binding unlimited use letter of exemption

Got the Luas rather than a bus this evening, couldn't get a bus from the Square and barely got a taxi. Stepped out of a taxi in Firhouse into mid-calf depth snow. ****ing hell.

Unlike last time, there's much more in Co. Dublin tonight than in Louth. Though amounts in my part of Dublin 2 haven't quite matched Wednesday 3 weeks ago.

The north of the aforementioned city and unfortunately the airport looks like it's about to get clobbered again...

I expect an early finish to buses tonight.

I think you'll need Firepacks to thaw the GLACIAL temperature in the room if your Mrs doesn't have a lovely present to open on Xmas Day........:);)
