Swords looks like being bad for a good while now, with another nice healthy shower after forming over north Dublin, progressing SE, however, with dwindiling upper winds, it could potentialy sit on central/south Dublin and dump its load, like many showers today.

Nope, this lot is tracking slightly more north than the last lot, so looks like going to miss south Dublin, it's for the north and west parts.

    And there's more to come......

Should come to a stop by midnight though

It seems everytime that one streamer passes a new one develops. Why do you think it will stop by midnight?

Indeed, though, I'd expect it too intensyfy and grow, Bringing south Dublin back into risk, but with these upper winds, ya never know..

It's coming down heavy in D12!;)

1982: Lived in Dalkey at the time. Got at least a foot and a half (came up above my 11 year old knees!). However, 'twas just the one fall and it had mostly thawed after a week plus. Not so this year. I'm within half a mile of the sea here though, and I'd say maybe the same depth has fallen over 2-3 days, but a degree of thaw during the day is melting some of it.

Streamers; this is looking very like lake effect snow; hard to predict as it has more to do with cold air over warm water than organized weather systems. I'm no MTC, but I'd guess north east would give the worst effect since there's a lot of water between us and Cumbria

frozen rivers: couldn't believe some of the pics people from Mayo have been posting; steam coming off the rivers at sub -10 temps. Haven't seen that since my days in Alberta.

News on, somewhere in cavan was sub 9 degrees all day. WTF???

    This doesn't happen here.

On the good news front, the grit/salt is now arriving in Dublin's fair city

Charts at 18.00 showed it clearing. Met Eireann forecast mentions them dying out during the night.

MTC's forecast at 18.00 also says that they will die off to very light flurries during the night.

However, as we have found out on Monday and again today, no forecast is 100% accurate.

Since before this cold spell started Met Eireann have been a disaster.
Summed up by the following statement about a week before the second spell started "it will be below normal but not anyway as bad as the previous cold spell"

    They truly are a disgrace

It's stopped now here. Whether to walk down to the off licence or not for a bottle of wine
