-13c to -16c across the South Midlands... if this verifies, then expect local hollows to go colder... -21c in Tullow? A new national record in Thomastown?

Occasional Snow showers have blanketed the ground.

A further 7 to 10cm of snow can be expected overnight.

Higher in the coutry especially inland while on coasts precipitation will be more a sleety nature.

More showers of snow sleet and hail in Co Sligo tomorrow and a bit of a mini thaw before another spell of snow on Friday around 3 or 4pm until around midnight.

    Saturday sees yet more snow.

Sunday, Monday should see severe frost a mins reach minus 8c.

Accumulated totals of snow by Tuesday could be

    Sligo 6 - 8cm
    Collooney 8cm
    Tubbercurry 12 - 15cm
    Ballisodare 4 -7cm
    Riverstown 10cm
    Castlebaldwin 9cm
    Strandhill 2cm
    Grange 6cm
    Ballymote 12cm

I WILL UPDATE THESE GUESSTIMATES TOMORROW OR AS THE BLIZZARD TRANSPIRES

There has been no fresh snowfall since Friday night so the snow depths are much the same as the above.

MONDAY - Should be a sunny day with a risk of light flurries. Max -1c

TUESDAY - After a frosty night with lows of -8c in some parts it will get cloudier but stay dry and very cold Max 2c

WEDNESDAY - Dry and Cold 3c

THURSDAY - Dry some sunshine and another degree better off. 4c

CHRISTMAS EVE - A very gradual thaw has begun at this stage. Temperatures will climb to 6c and it will be breezier.

CHRISTMAS DAY - Uncertainty but should be better than now with 5 or 6c and maybe some light rain.
