You need to listen to the lyrics of Halleljiah a bit harder. This song is many things but it is most definitely NOT religious. I suppose you could say it say its spiritual - I mean its basically a song about la petit mort:

Still, whilst you are right that that cover is crininal, I suppose there is some small subversive comfort to be had in the fact the millions of goons bought a 'religious' cover version, when in actual fact they were listening to a musical depiction of post orgasmic emptyness/ the loss of a lover - thou I very much doubt Alexandra Burke was aware of that fact (the Simon Cowell may well be)

Nah, they spell it as one word, not two.

Not suggesting that the OP is a Rubberbandit. Just that they're trying to promote them.

Yes, having religious sounding words in a song doesn't automatically make it religious. I'd say you'd have to go back as far as Cliff Richard to get a religious Christmas number 1.

What's the relevance of a Christmas number 1 in Ireland anyway? As far as I'm aware it was a big deal in the UK because there used to be a Top Of The Pops special on Christmas Day and if you were number 1 you got to be on it. No relevance here whatsoever. It's not like you get extra money for being number 1 on Christmas or something.

The Rubberbandits song is kind of Religious. The Video is set in a church!

And by the way, Santa is a tool of commercialism that was cleverly tacked on to a religious celebration in order to fool millions of people into parting with their hard earned cash. Let's celebrate that instead.

Yes, you're right. He was cleverly dreamed up by a shadowy cabal of international bankers to coerce the ordinary working man into parting with the money they had made and thus keeping them enslaved to the faceless corporations that run this planet. Well that's what Jim Corr told me…

The icon of Santa Claus as we know it was created by Coca Cola. It was part of their advertising campaigns in the 1930s. They based him on a combination of mythical folk-characters and the saint Nicholas. And Jim Corr didn't tell me that ;)

I know the being who was called Jesus the Christ when he walked on this plane. I meet him in the spirit world from time to time , he exists on a level of supreme knowledge and wisdom and because of this he has a very well developed sense of humour. He loves the Rubber Bandits but he can't f**kin stand Joe Duffy :D .

I for one certainly wont down load it and will switch of the radio when it comes on.

I smell a member of the Joe Duffy brigade here. Get over yourself and your hysteria over a ****ing comedy christmas record. The humour obviously goes way over your head so don't download it or listen to it on the radio. Nobody cares.

It's not like some devil worship song is going to be number 1 and to celebrate we're going to sacrifice a church full of virgins.

    Now theres an idea....

how is it disgusting? Im sure you've sworn plenty of times. Christmas is a holiday for everyone. A lot of people in Ireland now aren't even religious or are of other faiths, why can't we celebrate(I don't have any personal interest in religion).

Who care about being the laughing stock anyway? It just shows to the world that the Irish are still about "The Craic". It's part our culture to be up for a laugh and this is a modern way of expressing it.

And your last point, don't download it. I personally couldn't care less what you do. I'll turn off Matt Cardle when it comes on because I don't like that music but you don't see me registering on a forum just to give out about it. I'll the lads about this on th 29th in Limerick :D

I'm buying a copy for every member of my family, and then I'm going to delete them (the files, that is) just to send a message to these muppets; we will not stand for this type of nonsense while the little baby Jesus lies shivering in a barn waiting for Santy, on his birthday. Bag of jokes indeed. Grrr.

Great and while your on your knees praying, ask for guidance for the spelling and grammar in your future posts; they're a bigger embarrassment than anything the Rubberbandits ever produced. Thanks for sharing.

an' i've a horse outside like, pal.

It makes sense though. Rudolph with his nose so bright (coke?), Santa flyin' through the sky and breakin' into people's houses in the dark, robbin' food and drink, givin' presents to strangers - obviously off his head poor man (coke?). Then they crash and burn, hibernate in rehab for 11 months and repeat the dose next year.
... And Jim Corr didn't tell me that ;)
Nor me, but he wanted to come with us last year

Not true. He was around, as we know him, a good bit before coke used him.
