I'm pretty sure it's against the rules on here to discuss illegal downloading sites & programs.

And I think your a little bit confused. You wont find anywhere were you can download "legal" music for free unless it's been uploaded by the artist themselves which is very unusual for any big name or well known artist.

Anything out there by mainstream artists for free is most likely illegally shared.

He didn't mention anything about illegal. If you're not sure what's allowed to be discussed, check out the charter for the forum you're in. Here is the Music forum charter. If you're still unsure, ask a moderator for clarification.

123patmcgee delete Limewire off your PC. It's a terrible program which has no business being on a computer in 2010. Then go to Jamendo and download to your heart's content.

Well it was all pretty much implied.

What the hell else would you being using Limewire for?

I'd say the OP would prefer his question answered as opposed to what you think he implied. Downloading free music does not always equal the illegal downloading of copyrighted music from big name or well-known artists.

As for what else you'd use Limewire for, I've used it or other peer to peer client software to download Linux ISOs and Open Office for a start.

If you like old music some of it is legal to download. Do a Google search for 'public domain music'. Public domain means the copyright has expired and no one currently owns the rights to it. You could also search on www.archive.org for public domain music.

If you want something newer here's a blog post with a list of sites with free and legal music http://blog.webdistortion.com/2009/02/21/11-awesome-open-source-music-sites-for-digital-creatives/

If you use torrents you could visit www.mininova.org/ They don't allow illegal filesharing anymore so everything there is legal to download.

Ive used limewire/ABC/Bittorrent/Rapidshare etc in the past....limewire is okay (but illegal), ya need to know how to spot viruses on limewire though, if you type in a songname there are *always* viruses that pop up with the title exactly as you typed it, hiding as songs. Long as you stay away from those Limewire is okay....by far not the best option though!

What i've taken to doing lately and it's working much better is <snip>. Im pretty sure it's a lot more legal than limewire as the videos are put up on youtube to watch for free in the first place

Not only is it illegal, but the sound quality is generally sh-ite.

many bands offer free downloads of music - its a matter of going out and looking.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,805 ✭✭✭Setun

Well in my experience with listening to the odd track on youtube the sound quality hasn't been the best. Missing low frequencies, sometimes tinny eq etc, although obviously it depends on whoever has uploaded the music.
