I was expecting Super street fighter II:HD Remix to be discounted over Xmas. It's a great game but it's been 1200 points for well over a year.

Yeah, the list looks legit. It was removed from the US Dashboard, but still on Xbox.com. Even today's Pet Monkey avatar item and 13 Going On 30 were on it.

So, expect these avatar items, too

Not everything listed above is free, for example the Avatar pet monkey is 120 points instead of the usual 240 as per Major Nelsons Blog:

No, they're not free. They're going to be daily deals, like the arcade games and add-ons. The theme will obviously be free, but it'll just pop up sometime before the 31st
