Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What are the chances of a white christmas and where are the papers that were predicting the coldest December for years? Paper doesnt refuse ink

Sure they haven't the foggiest after 10 days. And sure its the oil companies scaremongering about cold weather. Evelyn gets a nice "bonus" from time to time to give a little warning about cold artic polar winds coming from the north on the long range forecast!

Those paper headlines were mainly in the red top rag papers, especially their online versions quoting quacks like Ring and madden
Real forecasters only have limited capabilities out to 10 days and chaos theory applies after 4 days, even 2 days

So if you haven't heard it from Met Eireann or the UK met office or over on the weather model threads on boards, don't believe it

There are a few tools, complicated tools for giving a best guess on beyond 10 days but the quacks don't go there because heaven forbid, that would require a knowledge of science
They only at best give broader windows anyway for certain weather to develop either in say a window of a few weeks and theres no guarantee

Current thinking is,if theres a cold spell,a snowy one maybe, it might happen in the window from mid January to early march so any week or several inside that who knows?

when theres talk of snow we end up getting extra spuds, bread and dog food...the army marches on their stomach after all

The weather station I have on the farm was showing 13C last night at 23:00.
And the station at my Dublin apartment was showing 16.5C at the same time.
Still in the 16 range today. I have winter tires on the car since that short cold snap in November. Must be wearing like mad.

Won't cure much if a frosty spell kills it first.

A friend who is into astronomy told me that Santa Claus may be visible on Christmas Eve at about 5.20pm weather and location dependant.

Gone very stormy there in the last half hour.
A lot of rain forecast starting tomorrow and finishing Christmas day.
Then potentially a very bad storm before the new year.

In other news I mowed the lawn in front of the house today.
I had to avoid some crocuses that were in bloom, never saw that before in December.

No rain today. The sun is shining here.
    Lovely day here.
I'm going to give up predicting the weather.
I bought a brush for the loader of the tractor as I thought it was going to be a snowy winter. Need not have bothered.

Crocuses would often be budding at christmas, but not in bloom.

I pulled a wasp out of my beard this morning, and stomped on it.[true]
It might not be climate change,I missed out on my September bath.[don't let the truth ruin a good story]
    HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!
