At the beginning of Aliens, look closely at the bottom of the escape pod's door when it is being cut open, and you'll see the spear gun Ripley used in the first movie when she blasted the alien out of the airlock. It is still stuck at the bottom of the door, just as it was at the ending of Alien.

I can't decide if this is absolutely brilliant and the best kind of 're-purposing', or if it's absolutely tragic that the poor hermit crab couldn't find anything better to use as his new shell.
Anyway, here it is.
A hermit crab in Cuba using a toothpaste cap as a shell.
