Not exactly 'cool', but this is a photo of Camp Century, a nuclear-powered military base built by the US in Greenland. Built in 1960 as part of the Cold War, it was part of Project Iceworm, an installation of tunnels that would allow military strikes on Russia. It was eventually considered unworkable because the instability of moving glaciers which would have damaged/destroyed the tunnels. They eventually abandoned it in 1966 with minimal decommissioning, assuming that snow and ice would just cover it basically forever.
With the climate changing, this is no longer the case, and soon a huge amount of toxic waste, fuel, and radioactive material will be exposed.
