Wondering what other peoples plan was for New years eve in Carlow town?

I see the Talbot are offering a gala ball, 4 course meal for €39 but I'd rather be closer to town.

    Any suggestions?

yeah. it is a wee bit far. I've ate in the liberty before.(an offer with room and a nights dinner) Its not bad. Dont drink the glass red tho. its quite nasty. And one thing is they close ssoooooooo early!! 9/9.30pm. Thats too early!

Lotus in town has a four course meal for 18.50euro,and christmas lunch. If you live in town and its snowy. Its easy to reach with some walking.

Hi I was looking at this page http://www.talbotcarlow.ie/home/christmas-at-talbot-hotel-carlow/new-years-eve-program it says €39 which I think is a bit expensive.

Wouldn't fancy a chinese NYE at all at all. I don't know what I want I suppose, I want no entrance fee, cheap beer, cheap food, nice crowd..
    Might have a house party!

No disrespect to the Talbot intendeded but why anyone would want to spend NYE there is beyond me. It's a hotel intended for people passing by, hence its location on the outskirts of town. It is in no way central.

Last NYE I went with a crowd of 15 or so for a meal on the top floor of the casino on brown st. Food was ok, we brought our own wine and made a good night for ourselves. Afterwards we walked down to the Med Bar to ring in the new year. It was a great night. The moral of the story been, give yourself options.

Landing yourself out in the wild surrounding the Talbot is a bit risky, if you dont like it you need to get a taxi into town, or more importantly an impossible to find taxi back out to the talbot.

Plenty of good bars in town, avoid Scraggs, Levs, Foundry and you will have a decent pub to yourself and your companions.

Is there anything happening in Visual on NYE?

i think that "restaurant" at the casino is closed...i know their whole business isnt doing so well..so might need to check before you go there.

oh i presume the op was asking for a dinner out on new years eve. Didnt think he/she was asking about staying in the same place.
For me i would have dinner somewhere and then head to a nice pub but i guess pubs will be packed so i'd stock up with drinks and stay in so i could enjoy drink at my comfort and not being stamped on !

oh the tapas bar mimosa would be a nice place to have drinks. They could only fit certain amount of people in there so it wont be overcrowded.Very decent place, not a place to get plastered. And they take bookings over 8 people. BUT if you want to eat properly tho dont go there first, have a nice dinner in town then head there,a get a bottle of wine have a chat with your friends.

The one and only time I've done the walk from the Dome/Talbot area to town, I was in a group of friends, and we got attacked, rocks thrown at us, and one of my friends had the face punched off him, and we had to leg it to a friends house nearby to escape.

Yes it is walkable. But at 3am? In rain or blizzard conditions? With the other half in her tallest heels? Through one of the dodgier areas of town? I'm speaking as somebody from outside Carlow Town so I guess I don't see the advantage of staying in the Talbot. Just my opinion, apologies if I came across harsh on the hotel.
