Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    It's that time of year...:)

What is your favorite Christmas hymn/carol? Post a link if possible too please...

I have lots of favorites, but I really like 'Silent Night' or 'Oíche Chúin'.. (as gaeilge is best)...
Orla Fallon and David Archutela sing it well...better than Enya imo..

Also, a few lovely ladies from Ireland who are recession busting with a rendition of 'O Holy Night'..

For your pleasure...'Celtic Woman' to bring a smile.

Hark the Herald Angels Sing. Fantastic words.

The third verse - which sees the choir crank it up to angelic chorus levels - leaves the hairs on my neck standing

Second Plowman. 'Oh Holy Night' by a country mile! Absolutely fabulous song. That minor 'fall on your knees....' can send chills down the spine.

Don't like Silent night or away in a manger, I find them quite bland.

And, in the case of Away in a Manger, theologically suspect. Just a hint of Docetism with that "no crying He makes" malarkey!

Ok, I had to look up 'Docetism':) Interesting. About two days ago I heard the song being sung and on that very line you quoted I commented, 'How do they know he never cried?'.

We used to love this as children, and sang it at school, until it was put about that it was written by Martin Luther---- it was never heard again!!

    That's an urban legend: http://www.suite101.com/content/history-of-away-in-a-manger-a85747

Urban Legend or not, it shows the bigotry that existed in 50's NI, that something so innocent and beautiful would be subject to a de facto censor.
