Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Women are far more expensive than a good car. So they should at least look the part :)

Should it matter? I'm neutral about it. It should not have to either or nor like so shouldn't matter if a guy has a better car than a woman or that a woman has a better car can a guy. A car is a car nothing more other than status is what you saying!

What's a women? Maybe conjoined female twins?

It's up to men whether they would prefer a better car than a woman. Myself, I'd prefer a better car than a man any day. More reliable and less likely to need a jump start :D

No harm in letting them have a good car imo.

Sure you would'nt want to be getting dropped off and collected from the boozer in a heap of junk.

Seen a beautiful woman in an M5 the other day, didnt bother me as I got back into my Astra :p mainly because she was smoking hot.

I then rallied the guts out of my car to show how much bigger my 100bhp was compared to her 500bhp.

Your Astra was smoking hot? Are Astras known for electrical fires?

In my experience someone has to like you already for the vehicle to make a difference.
A woman thinks some guy is a gob****e and finds out he has a fancy sportscar, he becomes an even bigger gob****e,'sure look at him thinking he's great in his car'. Vice versa applies.

Conclusion: car is inconsequential, or at best multiplies the persons first impressions.

Any car that does over 120KP/H is irrelevant.
The average person does not need a car over 1.2l
Anything else is a waste and completely pointelss, unless you have a small penis/ego.

If you think that cars have a gender, then you should seek help.

Finally; OP is troll in my opinion.

I'm a woman, and I absolutely love cars. I did a weekend of rally driving before, LOVED IT. If I had a bit of money or a rich husband, I'd love an Audi A5, a Maserati, or if I was rediculously rich, an Aston Martin DB9.

As I have neither a rich husband or a lot of money, I've made do with (what I think) is a pretty cool 1.8 MX-5 - not bought purely for it's image (though it looks great I think), but it actually has a great bit of acceleration and good handling too which is more important to me. I have a hard top on it too, wouldn't have bought it otherwise - it's more secure, warmer and looks a lot less 'poser-ish'! It's a good combination of price and 'fun' without costing a fortune in tax or insurance.

My husband has absolutely no interest in cars - I've bought the MX-5 now as I'm sure when kiddie's come along, I'll have to upgrade (or downgrade!) to something a little less impractical! :D

    Ah now, that's rubbish.
If someone lives in the city and is pretty much confined to a small area then a 1.2l car might do them.
But in general, it depends on a lot of factors.

    1. How many people are in the car on average. 1.2 litres might be okay for a single driver, but fit 5 people in and a full boot of luggage and it's a different story.

    2. Acceleration is important, especially when overtaking.
If you try overtaking a truck in a Micra, you have to spend longer on the other side of the road cos it's not powerful enough to accelerate past safely.

    3. Bigger engined cars are more reliable, as the engine is built more robustly for higher speeds.

    4. You need a larger engined car if you are towing a trailer/caravan.

    5. Smaller engined cars rev higher and are more prone to overheating on long journeys/high mileage.

So you might have a better argument if you said cars should have speed limiters set to say 130kph. But drop the argument about engine size.

    What's the rush?

Seriously. Where are you going to in such a hurry that you feel the need to break the speed limit?

Is it a matter of life or death that you overtake that truck?
If not, then why are you (or anyone else) in such a hurry?

    I feel the need...
The need to point out that you're wasting your time buying a souped up car when the maximum speed limit is 120KP/h, and that only applies to about 40km of roads in the entire country.

    tsst.

I didn't mention breaking the speed limit in my post at all.
There are completely legal and valid times when you might want good acceleration, eg. to overtake say a long vehicle on a road if it's doing 40kph in a 80kph zone.
You would also want good acceleration when merging into a car lane with fast traffic, eg. joining a motorway or major road with limited breaks in the traffic. You would still be working within the speed limits.

Also, cars which can go faster as a rule will have better brakes.
So, if you have a fast car going at 120kph on the motorway, and a 1.2 litre car at 120kph behind it and the car in front slams on the brakes, then the car behind would have a longer stopping distance because it was designed for slower speeds.

Generally, a car with a bigger engine, will be ... well bigger - therefore more solid and probably safer in the event of an accident.

No actually, some cars have different specs which can include bigger engines but still the same bodystyle. I'd say he meant that bigger engines, when accelerating, are trying just a little less than a smaller engined car so the power feels more smooth rather than rushed...if you get me...?

    Yeah :o
I said this to my mechanic one day & he got a skit out of it too but it wasn't the first time he had heard it, so I'm not the only one.

The only way I have of explaining it is that small litre engines are usually smaller sized cars. Bigger litre engines are usually bigger &, obviously, heavier cars so they 'feel' more solid on the road.

I'd partly agree with you, yes ;)

When you say bigger engines, you generally don't get a car with the same body style with more than a .2 litre difference (you're talking 1 litre versus 1.2, or 1.2 v 1.4 rather than a 1 litre versus 2.4 litre!)

I would like to make Terry aware that a lot of different racing circuits around Ireland, Great Britain and on Continental Europe allow you to drive your car around the track provided you meet track specific requirements. It's not uncommon for people with fast cars to take them to a race track. Also, it's worth mentioning that faster and more powerful cars are usually nicer looking cars.

Bottom line is, yes there is no need for fast powerful cars but fast and powerful cars are awesome.
