Northampton have been forced to relocate from Franklins Gardens to Milton Keynes by the ERC for their QF. Makes a bit of a nonsense of the home QF advantage, a harsh decision given FG holds 15 thou, not much shy of the arbitrary 16 thou ERC threshold. Good news for Ulster.

Must be a new rule they've brought in, Harlequins could only hold 12,000 in 09.

And I must say that even though Quins could only manage 12k, it was one of the best away trips I've had as a Leinster fan.

I'd be very disappointed if I was a Quins fan.

Franklins only holds 13591. The threshold is 15000. Good news for Ulster though.

They were planning on moving it regarless by all accounts.

    This thing works both ways.

Heineken want and need the French teams in the H Cup- even though they can't advertise in France ( though I would say the H is a strong symbol).

So to keep the French happy - you throw them a final in Paris and 2 guaranteed home semis.

    Do it again in 2013.

Then in the meantime you look after the Brits and Irish.

It's all a set up - but like the xfactor - we all join in.

To be honnest with you, like the majority of french people, i am in favour of stopping this long group stage of the Hcup and start it from 16 clubs home & away knock outs and one final : that's 7 matches against 9 for the winner and it's a better calendar for the teams who have a real interest in their domestic league

Pool stages are very exciting though IMO, this year it was unusually quiet due to a few upsets in Round 5 (Glasgow beating Wasps for one).

Unless teams were seeded, your suggested system would have some horrible mismatches at the start.

Also pool stages (just like Champions League in football) guarantee a level of revenue by having at least 3 home games per season. That means that clubs (particularly the weak ones who don't have a chance of progressing) have an idea of their gate receipts for the season and can plan ahead financially.

Keith Barwell (tool) has been threatening to relocate the Saints to MK anyway as the council (also tools) are blocking his and Asdas plan to enlarge Franklins Gardens and add a Supermarket. The council have also stiffled the football teams expansion plan for Sixfields.

They are happy to be seen when the teams (ok, the rugby team) are doing well, but offer no support to them to allow them to survive or grow.

Maybe the Quarter final being in MK will give the local council a wake up kick in the nuts, but I dobut it.

I know what you mean, but in that case this is a financial help that can be relieved by another national competition for the weaker clubs such as a Cup of some sort.

not really, you get more bums in seats when you are playing top international teams and you also get a lot more TV money as well, which a lot of teams would find hard to make up playing domestic cups.
