    Hi

    I get the same message.
Then I try to update Kies and it tells me I have the altest version already. I asked Vodafone (My Provider) and was told to ring Samsung on 0818717100. They told me to remove the sim card and the battery, put them back in and try again.
If that doesn't work they said to back up your contacts(ESEENTIAL!) and go to SETTINGS-PRIVACY-FACTORY DATA RESET (Scary, I know. You can always redownload any PAID and FREE apps later as they assured me it remembers that you already paid for them)
Then try to update to 2.2 again with Kies.
This is what SAMSUNG IRELAND said, not me.
    Hope this helps.

Ok, you should really use Google contacts, no backup required.
