Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Interesting article in the Guardian today about the KJB

I'd never realised it was so contentious at the time, never mind now..
Yes, good for the KJV-Only folk to remember its real origins, and weaknesses. All of the translations have their weaknesses, some worse than others. I used the KJV when I was converted, and the NKJV later. I also used the NIV to some extent. I use the NKJV normally, consulting the ESV and NIV for quick checks.

I gather Her Majesty the Queen referred to the KJV in her Christmas message, emphasising its 'ecumenical' origins. I'm sure some of our Free Presbyterian brethren choked on their after-dinner mints!:D

LOL, ecumenism is never a bad thing; I'm sure you would agree Wolfsbane...

'Her Majesty', may have a whole lot of wisdom...and that's from an Irish republican(ish)...!

Lot's to learn, and miles to travel still it seems...

Not really, because King James used the sword to ban and suppress the Geneva Bible, which was the preferred translaion of the Puritans.

Wolfsbane would likely choke over his after dinner mints at the thought of (doctrinal) unity with Rome. So probably not..

    :)

John 20:30 And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.

Yes, I doubt love of Christ was a motivation for James. In true ecumenical form, an unsavoury compromise was arrived at, something less offensive to his worldly outlook.

But God in His providence made it a blessing for many generations of Bible readers. :)

Acts 17:10 Then the brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea. When they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. 11 These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so. 12 Therefore many of them believed, and also not a few of the Greeks, prominent women as well as men.

Though I would be more of a British republican, I have been impressed over the years by the Queen's fortitude in adversity.

I pray for her and her family that God will indeed save them, for they are lost sinners like most of her subjects.
1 Timothy 2:1 Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.

May I take this opportunity to wish you and all my Irish friends a very happy New Year. May we indeed learn much in our journey this year. :)

And have redeemed us to God by Your blood
Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,
