Any hints on those ? B looks familiar. Are they based around indianapolis and D-day or would that be too easy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,490 ✭✭✭✭Tony EH

Hints, but I can't give too much away yet.

    A.
Pacific Theatre. Made in the 50's.

    B. Europe, 1944. Made in the 90's.

    Not the Indianapolis or D-Day.

In lieu of any from CerebralCortex here are a couple of not too tricky ones to keep things ticking along:

Oh sorry, I didn't realise how the game worked. My apologies.

Oh sorry, I didn't realise how the game worked. My apologies.

No worries, the way it should work is you post 2 pics, if somone guesses both correctly it's their go.

If a person guesses the first pic but not the second, then it is the go of the person who guesses the 2nd and final picture.

In this case I didn't have any to put online so thought you might want a go, but technically it was my go anyway.

If anyone needs clues on A+B above let me know, the titles of the pics are clues anyway. Both Europe made in the last 10yrs. A is German language, B is in English if I recall correctly. A also has the actress who played Eva Braun in Downfall (though not in the lead).

    Clues?

Two Russian films from the 70's. A. is from 1975 and B. from 1970, is the first in a brilliant series of 5 films, featuring some of the most spectacular battle scenes ever filmed. It's supposed to be Walter Model in the pic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,490 ✭✭✭✭Tony EH

    Still no takers?

    OK.

    The answers are:

    A. They Fought for the Motherland

    B. Liberation: The Fire Bulge

    B. and all the sequels are actually available on YouTube to watch if anyone's interested. 'The Fire Bulge' starts off with an account of the Battle of Kursk and the later films follow the Red Army's campaigns in The Dnieper, Bagration, The Oder and the drive to Berlin.

Well worth checking out. Unfortunately though, the versions on YouTube are the Russian ones, which mean that you have an annoying Russian voice-over whenever a non-Russian person is speaking. It's a terrible device, but quite common in Russian cinema. But, for sheer scale, it leaves Western WWII pictures behind.
