My sons cat fell off his balcony on Tuesday and suffered horrific injuries to its leg,I rang every vet in Wicklow to no avail,no 24 hr emergency vets to be had.Last resort was UCD and conditions on road were treacherous to say the least had to organise for his sister to bring him to UCD by 4x4.Cat was sedated and giving an xray and was told to see a vet locally in morning extensive surgery needed 800 at least. He paid UCD 290 euro his wages is 300e.Next day I rang blue x DSPCA etc for help as we couldn't afford 800e and extra visits on top of this.No help there as he wasn't on social welfare:( More phone calls by me,eventually rang St.Francis Dispensery in Inchicore well our prayers were answered,he arranged to bring cat in and surgery was done at a cost of less than 100e I empitied my bank account:DCat has a splint on and is going around as if nothing happened:D He will have a check up in 2 wks time .
I would just like people to know I have never spoken to a nicer vet in all the vets I had regarding my dogs and when we get sorted after xmas we will be making a donation never have I experienced such a caring practice and money wasn't a problem the cats condition was. Will never forget their kindness towards us :)

That's lovely to hear I know a lot of charities are stretched and have policies but even when you aren't on SW unexpected bills can be hard to sort out, and usually these things happen at the worst of times eg Xmas, middle of weekends etc. plus the weather isn't helping.

I've seen balconys in Germany that are fully netted and some fully fenced with metal railings all the way up, might be worth your son investing in some just in case because some cats just don't learn the first time around. I think I saw something on zooplus.co.uk for balconys.

great news to hear you got sorted. I go there too, the vet and the girls are great really helpful. The old man at the desk is a nightmare, he is sooooooo rude...who is he? Is it his place???

I seen a comment about St. Francis Dispensery that was wrote by someone (it was their first post)

I am on the Committee for St. Francis Dispensery - it is a Registered Charity and those of us that help run it do so free of charge.

The "old man" that was so nicely referred to in the post is called Billy and he is the Manager and since he has taken over managing the Dispensery there has been a huge improvement in the services that are being offered at St. Francis. We now have longer and better opening hours, new equipment has been purchased and more operation are being done in house so cut down on costs to the individuals and we are catering for a larger varity of illnesses including diabetic dogs etc which was never catered for.

I have given up plenty of my freetime attending the clinics to help out.

He was also instrumental in the employment of the vet Tomasz who is a wonderful vet and is great with all the animals.

I am not writing this post to have a debate just to set the record straight the thread can be locked - if anyone wants to know any information about St. Francis please just drop me a pm

<Merged the two threads together, case closed!
