Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It'll probably be this. When I took it, I was happy with it, But I didn't think it would appear in a Calendar, and be in with a chance of winning me €2000!

All that aside, It was a very brief moment that she looked like she was smiling and anyone who's seen it has loved it!

I see colour in each of them :P more like selective colour? Very nice all the same.

    here's a few of my own personal fav's -

This one I had printed and framed, hung in the hallway, it won one of the assignments on here, the theme was B&W I think, with over 50 votes :)
    A62CDFCDFB6B4BDCAC961AE6D4051DFB-800.jpg

This was one of my earlier dslr shots, taken on my old Sony A200, messing about with fast shutter speeds and flash, I just like how it turned out ... after 100 failures!
    4543304583_1a1ec549f7_z.jpg

Again, nothing spectacular, just liked how it turned out, half portrait, half selfie :)
    4643540224_45a9cb9d1a_z.jpg

And I won't be greedy, last one, our 3yr old running through the grass, I was actually on the ground trying to get close ups of the daisys, though with a normal kit lens ... she just happened to run past, messed with it in lightroom and again, just something I like about it, probably a nothing shot to others

but I tend to go off shots very quickly. I quite like this one at the moment though as it's only a few days old:

It's not easy picking just one image from a catalog of tens of thousands of images but, even though it's quite a recent image, it almost perfectly sums up my year in one shot. That is travel, fast cars and great people.

Amazing scenery, not the best photo or camera either, but great memory.

I take most of my photos when walking my dog, Shadow, so she appears in a lot of my shots. This is one of my favs.

and this one, taken with my then backup compact, after I drowned my D80. One of the few shots in which I ever attempted to capture my mood rather than an image. Not a great shot but I like it!

It's just ambient light from a security lamp on the wall. One of those happy accidents TBH.

where was that taken? and was it a single exposure?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 165 ✭✭waldo

where was that taken? and was it a single exposure?

The image was taken in Death Valley, California. This was a single image with minimal post processing. Taken with a 5d mII and 16-35 f2.8 lens. ISO 3200 at 52 seconds. The exposure was a little too long, because of full resolution minor motion blur caused by the rotation of the earth.

    A few conditions are needed:
    - A new moon in a clear sky, as well as no cities or towns within 100 miles plus (the distant light in this image is greater Los Angeles, 200/250 miles away.
    - Low (desert) humidity, which distorts starlight as it passes through the lower atmosphere.

I'm hoping to reproduce this off the West Cork coast, but I'm not sure if I'll get the same result. The brighter part of the milky way is generally in the south west sky, and changes at different times of the year (as the earth rotates around the sun).

I would say either this one:

    or this one:

    4831554844_a824152a35.jpg

The top one was taken in the Bird Park in Kuala Lumpur, the lower one in Chinatown in Singapore.

    Torn between two.

First one - fireworks display in Limerick city, near King John's castle to mark Limerick being named as a European City of Sport.

Second one - Sunrise over Mullaghmore, Sligo.

Some really great shots on here... Just been looking through my stuff from this year, went into a bit of a 'meh' mood towards the end of the year, really want to amp it up next year!

Best images are in my head - Lidl €6 underwater camera got flooded when I swam among surfers in Strandhill and sunset. Glassy water, interval between waves more than 12 seconds, almost heaven. I was swimming there (with fins) more than 15 minutes before hypotermia kicked in seriously. The best 15 minutes of this year, apart from non-working camera.

I had thought this was a poor year for me photography wise but looking back through Pix.ie it's been better than I had thought. There are of course a few and I don't think I can pick a best one but each one makes me think that there's something better there, that I can improve on:

    E4E33920EC2A4DB78147403E8CC2AB9B-0000333844-0001939151-00500L-02B7BDEC0638474A855FD5C11E22C14E.jpg
This is from the Yashica. It's not a brilliant photo by any means but it fills me with a lot of excitement as to the potential of the camera. I just need some time and imagination to hopefully get some great shots from it.

    BD740D23F84C490BB27931224FA4DC52-500.jpg
Another film camera. I really like this shot but wish I had gotten all of the other puppy in frame.

    ED22240A97554FE7AAD042B809EB0B65-500.jpg
Taken on a €10 macro- I really have to use it more.

    3B259CA406564F7DAE24A3B080D6D20F-500.jpg
Despite what the EXIF data says this was actually taken early-ish in the year and is probably my favourite portrait I've taken.

I'm making a big move early next year house wise and hope that brings with it lots of new photographic opportunities. I'm really excited as I'll be out of the city and basically in the country.

it's taken at Garibaldi upper lake in BC, Canada - just north of Vancouver. Camera was mounted on a tripod.

    ISO 200
    20mm focal length
    -0.67ev
    f/22
    1.0s shutter speed.

I adjusted the the white balance and the vibrancy slightly in Aperture. Other than that it's as shot.
