Hi guys, a friend of mine got a netopia router and he couldnt get the wireless to work on his laptop, went an had a look and checked the router service page (you know type the ip in and brings up router access) anyways it says on the page wireless down, it works with cable just not with wireless, i was also told that they are no longer with eircom- they have switched to perlico.. Would that make a difference.

what model is the router?i have a 2247-02 netopia from eircom but use it for UTV internet.can your friend go into wireless settings then tick the box to enable wireless?switching to perlico would not make any differance over the wireless as perlico and eircom can't control what happens with your wireless connections!

think its 2247nwg, see if you go into the router ip page all wireless settings are applied correctly. e.g in comparison with my internet which is eircom all settings are the same. Only difference is my router settings page says "WIRELESS- OPERATIONAL" His says "WIRELESS- DOWN".

Have you gone to the wireless section, hit enable wireless and restart the router?

ya tried that aswel its already active.

Thats strange, try reset the modem(pin in the back of the router), if that doesnt work try update the firmware

Edit: Reset mightent be wise cause it might revert back to the old eircom settings by default

what settings might it revert to? has any of you guys actually experienced the issue were it says wireless-down?? and the green light on the router which shows wireless is active is also off.

It should work when you enable the wireless settings and then restart the router. Otherwise it sounds like a fault with the device, albeit a pretty unlikely one

Have you entered the proper sign on settings for Perlico? Is there internet access via ethernet?

Your internet provider has nothing got to do with your wireless network. Their job is to get the bb signtal to your modem/router - in this case they are obviously doing that. The customer then uses a wireless router/modem to get the signal around the house.

The only things that you usally have to do is to make sure the wireless is on in the router/modem and set up a wireless network with name and password.

It may be that the router is broken. Did they not get one when they changed to Perlico?

There are a couple of similar threads on Boards : here and here. Both seem to point towards it being a power supply issue. Can you borrow a power supply from a friendly neighbour to check if this is the problem?

Not a broadband issue, so thread moved to Wireless.

I noticed the green light for wireless was active on the router today and checked the router web page and it said operational..... So tried it and it worked (sort of) it had only 2 bars of signal yet it was right next to the router?? its picking up a neighbors wireless with full signal but its encrypted- strange it can only get 2 bars in this house? After awhile the green light stopped working again on router and the web page says wireless down again. tried changing the power supply today but to no avail.
