Dunno, but it was quite good. A sort of Desert Island Disks approach.

It was a really interesting programme. Joe Elliott had a lot to say. His formative years as his band (Def Leppard) were coming into the frame exposed him to quite an eclectic range of music (Sex Pistols, Stranglers, AC/DC, Queen). He was well into Bowie and heavily name-checked Ian Hunter.

Elliott selected interesting and unconventional enough tunes like AC/DC's 'Downpayment blues' (off the brilliant 'Powerage': http://www.amazon.co.uk/Powerage-AC-DC/dp/B00008AJL6/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1293481335&sr=1-1), Bowie's 'Star' (off the brilliant Ziggy album:http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rise-Fall-Ziggy-Stardust-Spiders/dp/B00001OH7P/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1293481215&sr=1-1 ), Hunter's (well actually Bowie's) 'All the young dudes' and Queen's 'Tie your mother down' (off their classic 'A day at the races': http://www.amazon.co.uk/Day-at-Races-Queen/dp/B000025KL4/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1293481874&sr=1-1).

Dunne also played 'Animal' (off 'Hysteria': http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hysteria-Def-Leppard/dp/B000001FKY/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1293482232&sr=1-1). A really well-constructed Leppard song. I enjoyed hearing that one after all these years. Leppard had some hugely popular 5-star albums in their day. But I do particularly like their patchy but enthusiatic metal debut, 'On through the night': http://www.amazon.co.uk/Through-Night-Def-Leppard/dp/B000001F7R/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1293482053&sr=1-1.

Great show Tom. Well done!!!!! Get Joe back on again!!

PS: They also showcased an interesting remix of Lizzy's 'Jailbreak'. I got the Lizzy remasters from a few years back, and, while they're good, you get the impression the master tapes weren't the best. Elliott was involved in (or had inside info on) the new venture, and talked up the technology used to improve the reproduction. Brian Downey's drums sounded great (would love to hear the results of the same kind of work on 'Chinatown'!!!!). But they have also added new guitar work to improve on old blemishes, so you have to raise an eyebrow. Dodgy territory!!!! Redolent of the old chestnut that Queen wanted to book a particular studio, but were told they couldn't because Lizzy were, ahem, recording 'Live and dangerous'.

Took a listen to it last night, managed to get it in the UK, and really enjoyed it. Joe has always impressed me as a singer and he really had a lot of interesting stories, his tale about Mick Ronson was particularly sad, and he seems to still hold a grudge against David Bowie regarding the treatment Ronson received.

Wikipedia says nothing about Ronson's work with Joe Elliot towards the end of his life, and I presume this song goes unreleased, if he died 10 days after it was recorded.

The Jailbreak "remix" was interesting, as mentioned the drum track was much crisper and cleaner in the mix but those extra guitar flourishes deffo struck a bum note. Just not needed.

Great interview with Joe. Def (no pun intended) get him back on ASAP.

    Great remix of Jailbreak too.

Incidentally, I would love to hear a cleaner remaster/remix of "Chinatown" bringing the absolutely fantastic drumming more to the fore.

Interesting that a few of you picked up on the drumming on the remix version of Jailbreak.

The drumming is something that is meant to sound amazing on the three reissues that are out in a couple of weeks. Live And Dangerous, Jailbreak and Johnny The Fox being the three albums getting the special treatment.

From what I have read in reviews all three will be coming with two cds and one dvd.

Roll on the 21st January when we can get them and listen for ourselves.

I remember someone on BBC News, some "Industry Expert" claimed this was the case when someone wrote in to ask what their opinion was on great live albums
