London - 7 weeks to go

Wed 06/03 - This was to be a recovery run, but I planned the route badly, and got the creeps, so upped the pace a bit. Legs quite creaky. 5.15 miles avg 8.45 pace.

Thurs 07/03 - Another creaky run, def need to have a sports rub soon. 5.02 miles avg 8.37 pace.

London - 6 weeks to go

Sat 09/03 - LSR time. Still not feeling quite 100% and I found the first 6 miles very tough  The route, whilst scenic, was very hilly. Started to feel a bit more comfortable around mile 8, took a gel at mile 13 as my stomach was talking to me. It was rank, so that's the end of high 5's for me, gonna have to find an alternative. Mile 15-17 was a huge climb, and the legs were bet - 9.37 min miles, for these. The rest of the run was just about getting back to the car. Finished stronger than last week, thankfully. 22.11 miles avg 8.51 pace.

Sun 10/03 - Quite tired after yesterday, and with the wind and sleet, I was happy to run at an easy pace, along the backstrand. 4.15 miles avg 9.19 pace.

I've been finding the first 5/6 or so miles of my long runs tough too. Don't really settle in till about mile 7 or so then they start to feel easy until about mile 14/15 when the pain begins again.

I've been using these gels - http://ie.myprotein.com/sports-nutrition/ener-gel/10530821.html - not sure if they are any good but they have no negative impact on my stomach

Thanks statss, you're right about settling into it after 7-8 miles, for some reason I seem to forget this during longruns, and my mind takes over with all sorts thoughts just a couple of miles in!

And thanks for that link I'll check out :)

London - 6 weeks to go

Mon 11/03 - Decided to do this character building hill session while it was still bright, as the snow clouds were building over the bay.
10 hill repeats, the last 6 in a blizzard, not pleasant at all  An uncomfortable "cool down" run home. Don't think I've ever been so cold, my face was raw from the wind and snow. 5.50 miles covered.

Took the dog out at 6.30 this morning for a walk in the snow. No-one about, just me and herself tearing around the desserted roads. She loved it, so at least someone in our house appreciated the weather :)

Mine too, eating the snow, rolling around in it, sticking her head in it. She's a pup at heart, even though she's nearly 10 :D

London - 6 weeks to go

Tues 12/03 - I was supposed to do a progression run this eve, but took a funny turn on the way home from work, and spent the evening in bed. Oohh the guilts :(

Wed 13/03 - Felt much better today, so tried to compensate for last nights miss. Happy with how this went, and kept the effort going on the last 2 miles uphill. 10.15 miles avg 8.31 pace.

London - 6 weeks to go

Sat 16/03 - LSR time. Perfect morning for this one, cold but calm. First 9 miles flew by, then the fun started with the hills. Mile 9 - 15 were tough going, tried a Gu for the first time, much nicer tasting than High5, but harder to take. Got to mile 20 ok, then the legs really tired. Last few miles were a bit of a slog, but delighted to get it done. 23.25 miles avg 8.42 pace.

Sun 17/03 - Easy recovery run along the backstrand. Legs a bit rickety for the first while, but settled down again. 4 miles avg 9.27 pace.

Fantastic LSRs in the bank for London, you are in great shape for the big day.:)

I'm getting very excited, I may switch to a cockney accent for the next few weeks just to get in the mood even more (if only I could do a Cockney accent;))

Thanks Marthastew :) Sounds like you are raring to go! I go from excitment to panic mode, daily. And the mara-mares have started! It's going to be an interesting few weeks.

Thurs 14/03 - Day off work, and I spent all morning putting this off. The wind and rain wasn't helping. Eventually got out at lunchtime for a few miles 4.10 miles avg 8.40 pace.

What are your travel/accomodation/weekend plans Ruby?

Flying in LCA Fri eve, going to stay at the docklands and get to the expo. Then head for the Strand Sat morning. It's getting close now!

London - 4 weeks to go

Sat 23/03 - Jebas it was cold this morning, I hadn't enough layers on, and left my gloves at home, so it was a painful at times, especially by the coast. Bit of a niggle with the TFL & Psoas muscle towards the end, but sure there's always something niggling at this stage  20.02 miles avg 8.30 pace Mile 2,3,4,5,7,10, 15 & 16, 19 & 20 were at pmp.

Sun 24/03 - Another raw morning on the beach. This cold weather better last until after 21st April, at this stage anything above about 8 degrees is going to feel warm :o

Mon 25/03 - Interval session. 2 mile warm-up, 3 x 1600's, 1 mile cool down. 6 mies covered. Happy with the effort. Not happy with the new mizuno's, the tongue on the right shoe is causing discomfort to the top of my foot

I fixed a pair of Mizunos with scissors once (still getting slagged about it ) but I left a hole in them. They are very narrow aren't they?

You gotta do what you gotta do :D pity about the hole in them though!

I don't find them too narrow, it was the tongue on them that was the problem (seam rough at the edge). Or else I just have a gammy right foot, as the same thing happened with brooks adrenalines last year :o

London - 4 weeks to go

Sat 30/03 - The final LSR! Can't believe how quick the weeks have gone by. After a really good nights sleep I headed off out the door at just before 7am for this. Bitterly cold again, and even though I did a loop, I had the wind in my face for all of it  But all in all, it went pretty well. 23.40 miles avg 8.36 pace.

Sun 31/03 - Short recovery run, in baltic conditions. Legs a bit dodgy for the first mile but ok after that. 3.15 miles avg 9.18 pace.

Tues 02/04 - Progression run, not the most comfortable run I've had, my breathing was like that of a 40-a-day-er, and of course there were niggles galore. All in all a typical taper run :pac: 6.40 miles avg 7.48 pace.
