PC won't stay on

Hey, burnt out my psu few days ago. changed it over yesterday and everything was fine. was using all last night. turned it on this afternoon and it only stayed on as far as desktop screen, then lost all power. It constantly does this. Weird thing is, if i turn it back on straight away it will loose power in seconds. If I wait a few minutes to start up after it looses power it will stay on longer. but it never stays on longer than desktop screen. Any clues?
i did change from a 480w to 500w psu. don't know if that would make any difference. Tried starting in safe mode, going into BIOS screen, troubleshooting. It always shuts down no matter what i do.
If anyone has had this problem before please let us know what the story is.
    Cheers all

The cpu might be over heating and knocking the pc of you will need to remove the heatsink of the cpu clean of the termal paste and put on new paste also clean out any dust of fans etc while doing it.

Sounds like something's faulty or overheating and that it might have been what caused the problem in the first place. Have you given the PC a good clean? What sort of components (graphics. disks etc.) have you got in the machine?

Thats it lads. The water pump isn't kicking in on the cooling system. Just saw lights flickering in it. Cheers. :)
