One of my resolutions for the new year is to start doing some classes in the evenings.

Where can I find information about what classes are running in Sligo town?

Thanks. I have a gym membership and do some running in the summer (10ks and Warriors Run).

For the new year I was thinking more about learning a language, improving my computer skills etc.

Sorry my mistake, I managed to read classes running as running classes :o and that's before I've had a drink.

Have you tried the Sligo IT or the VEC? They usually have evening classes. Also there are leaflets up in the library advertising different things.

Thanks. I can't find much on the VEC or IT website for evening classes.

I'll call into the library when I'm out and about tomorrow.

I'm curious what kind of computer course you're looking for? I'm working with the folks in the VEC on creating some either day long or evening courses in open source web development, and open source applications. Does that interest you? This would be later in the spring.

    There are also some basic courses at;
    http://www.cbtraining.ie/
    http://www.smartskills.ie/

Right now the only evening course listed at Sligo VEC is a Child care course:

They don't do "hobby" type courses, which are usually done in local community centers or active age groups.

Oh!! There's a guy (well he's my friend, heh) that teaches Spanish out of the Cafe Arabica on Bridge street. The courses are group classes, and they are a great price. If you want the info, you can message me and I'll send you his contact info.

He also speaks portuguese and german I think.

St Michaels Family Life centre do lots of day and evening courses in things like Art, Childcare, Cookery and Gardening. Most of them are very well priced.

They have a community garden that starts up in March. You pay 40e for six months use of the garden including tution and get to keep all the vegtables you grow.

Chapel Lane Studio (Mary Mc Donagh's) do adults classes in tap and jazz ballet.

Sligo Kayak Club will start running Adults and Children's courses in late spring. Check out the website for more details, sligo kayak club dot com.

Hi Truley, there are a couple of courses I liked in St. Michaels, but would you know is there a religous slant towards them or is it just about the course? I don't need no more preachin'!

St Michaels organisation itself certainly has a religious ('spiritual') slant to it but I haven't found any of the courses (apart from the specifically religious ones) to be in any way religious, and this coming from a devout athiest.

I highly recommend the organic gardening, and I've heard great things about the cookery and preserving courses.

Hey, I saw this recently and I was wondering if your friend is still doing those classes?

    Cafe Arabica no longer exists.
