Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi. Hope the following is not breaking any rules. If it is conflicting with anything it should not please inform.

I have bought Windows7 have it at least close to a good year now. I now have 2 slight problems. As follows (2nd problem im more interested in)

1st : I first installed the Windows7 System onto my Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Laptop but only having it installed for about 5 months the Motherboard choked and died a horrible painful death as i like to put it. I could have this Repaired but buying from Ebay its going to set me back €153-€200. Money i just dont have as school doesnt pay. If you know where i may find a cheaper motherboard less than €100's that would be great :P

My 2nd problem is. I can see that the first option will totally bugger up. And personally i would like a new laptop. I have now installed the Windows7 system onto my Dell Dimention Xp Desktop. But because the system was already registered to the Amilo. microsoft now think im running a pirate copy. I want to register the Dell with the product key but i have no way of De-regeristing it from the Amilo. If anyone can help please . I dont want to ring Microsoft cause they will probably give me lecture on stealing. and shut my whole system down. Like i have paid for the licence. I should be at least allowed to use it on one machine i think. :pac:

    Thanks
    Jonathan.

First of all, we can read. The red highlighting is not necessary. :)

Second, if you do repair the laptop with a different motherboard, it may fail Windows activation since the motherboard is different, and it's one of the criteria that it uses to determine whether the computer is the same or not.

Third, your best bet is to ring Microsoft Ireland and get them to activate it for you. I'm sure that they deal with similar situations regularly so you shouldn't have any problems. If nothing else you'll know what to do next. :)

Odaise is correct, however microsoft can be quite difficult to deal with regarding such matters, Failing successful talks with them , you may pm me and I can show you alternate routes of fixing your problem.:D

Well its just to make the simple points stand out . :D . I was kind of thinking something like that would happen not really worth repairing so... Ya i guess my only option is to ring microsoft . Thanks

microsoft transferred a licence for me.

basically i had a pc where the motherboard chipset blew, and the new motherboard replacement board is a new revision of the original board which win7 picked up as being a different board (probably due to the chipset being a different version chipset).

i rang the microsofties who promptly change the licence to match the new board.

When activation fails click the option to ring Microsoft. This generates a 25 digit code. When you ring its all voice recorded so follow the instructions. The recorded voice will ask you how many pc's you have the OS installed on just press "1" and all will proceed nicely. I have done this loads of times with Xp, Win7 & Server 2008 so dont be worrying.

Post the details of your laptop and I will see if I can find you a mobo

... Not for OEM or Retail Distribution. ...

there you go, says it all !!!

go and check if you purchased a legit copy of Windows7
    http://www.microsoft.com/howtotell/default.aspx?displaylang=en

    e.g. Windows7 Professional retail
    http://www.microsoft.com/howtotell/product.aspx?pID=38c37f36-bc93-4b47-b8a1-844b6968bc8e&cID=ea710cad-37b0-4975-bcd6-abfee19961df&method=retail&displaylang=en

with your disc you should have received a "Certificate of Authenticity" or "Proof of License Label"!

I only noticed the link to an image in your post when I quoted your post.
so is this the actual media you got?
    http://s492.photobucket.com/albums/rr287/Clareaer777/?action=view&current=Windows7disc.jpg

    two things
    1. that version is for Students only
    2. that version is an upgrade version which requires you to also have a license for either Windows XP or Windows Vista

If you think you were scammed you could report it to Microsoft
    http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/reporting/default.aspx

    hope this helps

    ...The company are dead cheap...

    indeed, students are lucky...

... and its a genuine copy. or least had been for a year nearly.

can you confirm you received a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) sticker with your Windows7 copy?

    http://www.microsoft.com/howtotell/content.aspx?pg=coa&displaylang=en
    http://www.microsoft.com/howtotell/content.aspx?displaylang=en&pg=ar_coa_retail
    http://www.microsoft.com/howtotell/content.aspx?displaylang=en&pg=ar_coa_oem

On this COA sticker you'll find your product key that is required for activation and what Microsoft will be asking for when you ring them up.

be aware that one license key only entitles you to one Windows 7 installation (in this case) so you would need to tell Microsoft that your laptop is knackered and won't be repaired.
