    Hi John
Got the nod to get a surround sound system. Have 46" samsung & PS3. My budget is approx €400.
Restrictions are tall slim speakers only & wireless (rear).
I was also looking at soundbars as an alternative (had seen the samsung HW-C450)

How do soundbars compare to 5.1?

    Any suggestions??

    Thanks

    Hi Keith.

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

I personally have not yet come across a wireless system that I would consider to be of good quality compared to a wired system or soundbars. The wireless tranmission to the rears is usually done via a box that has to be mains powered and speaker cables run from this to the speakers, so really, the rears are still wired.

I can recommend soundbars as a good alternative as long as the room is not too large and has walls to use to bounce the sound.

What size is the room and is it a standard shape ?

    Regards

    Dave

    Hi Dave
In a duplex so standard size square shaped room.
TV is in corner not centraly wall mounted (if that makes a diff)

should also mention that PS3 uses HDMI & also UPC HD box vis HDMI to tv at moment.

    Can you recommend any soundbars?

    Keith,

apologies for taking so long to get back to you.

If you are looking for a good quality and well priced sound bar I can highly recommend the Boston TVee 20 bar which we have on Boardie special at the moment at £219.95 - see details here (theer is a good video on it on this page):

Apologies again for the delay and keep me posted if we can assist,
