Have a 3 month old and we dont use the monitor too much.
We had one of the infra red camera types but it was terrible :( Bought this one today http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/3764587/Trail/searchtext%3EBABY+MONITOR.htm but will only get to try it tomorrow so will let you know :)

    I have this one http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/3764594.htm

It's the model before the poster before and it's grand. Very sensitive, picks up the littlest sound. I bought mine for €10 in Tesco because they had mispriced them!

I'd be a big fan of the angel care monitors, the movement sensor is very reassuring. Smyths seem to be the cheapest for them.

I see tommy tipee have a similar one, but I haven't used that one.

The video is nice but not essential. I prefer the ones that give you the intensity of volume. Sometimes its hard to differentiate between crying and just making noise.

Went with the angelcare monitor in the end, reviews were fantastic then my friend was visiting and her fiance's sister has the anglecare sound&movement monitor and she highly recommended it.
