Waterproof paint?

My father has a garage built of 9" cavity blocks which is not plastered. Its a bit damp and he was thinking of painting it with about 3-4 coats of weathershield as plastering it would be a bit of a job because two of the walls are up close a 8ft laurel hedge and not much room for scaffolding, not impossible though. He was asking me did I know of any waterproof paint or additive that would help with the dampness so any ideas guys or would it be a waste of money? Told him I dont think you can plaster over paint so he needs to do it right the first time!

zinsser do a product called WATERETITE it is a paint that can withstand up to 35psi of water may its worth a look

zinsser also do a paint called perma white. It's latex based and stops black mold spots appearing.

I was reading this thread from earlier today,

and I think it might work out better for my father to use the Thompsons water seal instead of the waterproof paint as it soaks into the blockwork "to deliver invisible protection against water damage. The deep penetrating formulation travels deep into exterior dry porous surfaces to form a breathable membrane that allows moisture vapour inside the substrate to evaporate whilst protecting against water penetration and damage." well according to their website anyway.

He could still plaster the shed down the line when times come good again :rolleyes: which he couldnt do if it was painted with masonry waterproof paint?

im not sure the thompson stuff is specifically designed for damp proofing. It is more of a weather shield . Correct me if im wrong.

I have seen this been used once and left a thick black coat which moister could not pass through . Great for garage conversions . But its not pretty . Needing lined after

There is products out there which may be better suited to your application.
