Nine lighthouses directly run by the lighthouse authority will stop using their fog signals tomorrow, while several other lighthouses run by local authorities or harbour boards, including Dún Laoghaire, Co Dublin, will also fall silent.

From this morning's Irish Times. Bit of a personal loss here; from my earliest memory have associated snow falling with the sound of foghorns. The week before Christmas they never stopped. Alas, snow will never be the same again - a bit of the magic is gone. :(

Pouring rain all evening, 3.4C. Terrible and depressing weather

On the plus side though it should finally melt the snow from the footpaths, this morning was as bad as its been all winter. Amazing how stubborn its being in melting, even now after 6 hours of heavy rain the garden is still all white

6.8c in Waterford City,no wind. Has been gradually getting cloudier as the day went on. MT was right in saying in his forecast that it would be interesting to watch the change as the day went on. Would imagine it will be raining here in the next few hours.
