Home Sharing - What am I doing wrong?

I received an Apple TV (2nd Gen) for Christmas and simply cannot get Home sharing to work. I've tried all the trouble shooting guides I can find and still no luck.

I've got a 2009 MacBook Pro (running Leopard), iPhone 4, iPad and Apple TV all connected to an Eircom router. The remote app for iOS is supposed to work over Home Sharing, but can't see my Apple TV or my iTunes library. Similarly, the Apple TV can't see my iTunes library.

All my devices have the latest updates installed and iTunes is running version 10.1. They all connect to my WIFI just fine, but it seems they can't see each other, if ya get me. I think the problem lies with my router settings, but dunno what to change.

Hopefully someone here can help me?

It's a router problem! One my dad is having and, admittedly, I have no idea how to solve :(

If there is a firewall on the router, make sure that it allows LAN traffic for port 5353 UDP for Bonjour/Airplay discovery, 554 TCP and UDP and 3689 TCP for streaming.

I hate to be a pain, but how do I go about opening these ports?

If your firewall is off then all ports are open - but your actual router will have to be edited to open those ports too.

cisco is http://192.168.100.1/ - google to see how to get into your routers settings.

Do you have sharing enabled on your macbook? Click on advanced menu in iTunes and enable home sharing.
