    This morning :

    3 miles in 26.13. 8.44 pace.

Beautiful sunrise over the city this morning. Tired legs but enjoyed this.

Good to actually drag myself out of bed for these early runs. Always worth it once you get going.

    Today:

    18 miles in 2.58. 9.53 pace.

Great run! Legs felt the best they have for any long run. The toughest part was that it was unexpectedly warm and that began to drain me towards the end.

I had four weetabix before I ran today and it made a huge difference energy level wise. note to self - unsurprisingly you need a bigger breakfast to fuel a longer run.

All in all, a very encouraging run. Dare I say a sign that a sub 4 is possible? We'll see how the 20 milers go...

    Well done, great running!

    Tonight

    3 miles in 22.39.

Legs felt surprisingly good after long run Saturday and a feed of pints. Top class recovery at the Frampton fight knocking back Harp!

Fell out of bed for 5 miles in 43.09. 8.38 pace.

Decent run. Hilly route in Phoenix park and had backpack so all good.

    This morning :

    8 miles in 1.10. 8.54 pace.

Up and it early as ive plans after work. Sluggish but happy enough. Always feels like a productive day when you've a run done before work.

ha ha. Get another few long runs paced like that under your belt and I would say yes! And keep the easy and recovery days easy:)
You doing the half next week?

    Wednesday evening:

6 miles in about 49. Hilly route in Phoenix park.

    Today:

    Race Series Half Marathon

    13.1 miles in 1.45.13.

Super strong. Soo much better than the ten miles. Powered up the hills. Passed loads. Felt great!!

Id say I could knock a few minutes off that time too. Great confidence boost. Plan was to stick to 8 minutes miles and I got that spot on.

I was very nervous about this race so im a very happy man.

    Bring on the marathon! !

Great racing! Sounds like there was a bit more in the bag there too.
    Well set up now!

    This morning :

    3 miles in 25.42. 8.34 pace.

Legs felt fine if a little tired. Going well at moment other than slight twinge in right foot. We wont mention that

    This morning :

    5 miles in 41.09. 8.13 pace.

A refreshing jaunt by the sea front. Spiffing

    This morning :

    6 miles. Time ?

Garmin battery was flat so I took my regular watch and the battery went on that too. Nice!

Feeling a bit sluggish. Long run tomorrow.

    Today

20 miles in 3.07. 9.28 pace (running time. I stopped twice to take gels and pee and stopped watch)

Tough day at the office. Out and back with wind slapping the face off me the whole way home. Character building I suppose you would call it. This Indian summer needs to fcuk off because I was sweating like a pig. Sun beaming down mocking me the whole way.

I wanted to quit for the last five miles so im happy I didn't give in but at the same time I would have liked a more easy run for the confidence boost.

    Sunday

    3 miles. no watch.

    Today:

    5 miles in 40.03. 8 pace.

Neck and shoulders stiff today. Hopefully loosen as day progresses. Saw a gorgeous sun rise on sandymount beach as I was running. Not the worst place to live.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,088 ✭✭✭LaHaine

    This morning :

    8 miles in 1.08. 8.36 pace.

Sheesh this was a struggle to get out of bed. As always delighted I got up once I got out there.

Near the end of the longer training weeks so no excuse for not getting these done. Knees a bit creaky and neck still stiff but nothing major.

Cant believe how hot it still is. October today and I was sweating buckets.

I was talking to a guy in work yesterday who runs a lot and reckons I should go with 3.50 pacers. My head is wrecked thinking about it all at this stage!!

I try to avoid the novices thread a bit to try not to be thinking about it all too much but inevitably im sucked into checking it the whole time.

Early runs are the business when you get out of bed eventually. free for the evening then and you feel great all day.

Hows the need for speed going? The faster sessions you do would kill me.

You've another few weeks to think about the target so give it plenty of consideration. I know that head wreck feeling! You're just eating sleeping and thinking marathon all the time!!!
    Home straight coming soon....
I'm currently just building the mileage back up after a 12 day break but will be working on the speed again soon. Love mixing it up so can't wait!!
Major respect for the early runs. I'm going to try a few soon so thanks for the inspiration! Only difference is that I'll have to run again in the evenings but I ain't complaining one bit!!!
Excited to see how you'll do on the 27th :)

    This morning :

    5 miles in 40.22. 8.07 pace.

Luckily I was out early so missed the horrible weather. Last long run before taper in the morning!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,088 ✭✭✭LaHaine

    This morning:

    20 miles in 3.02. 9.10 pace.

That includes pee stop, no watch stoppages.

    Boom!! Like a boss!!!!!

Felt great. Took gel earlier and that made huge difference. Legs aren't even sore now.

    Last night:

    5.2 miles in 45.56. 8.47 pace.

    Today

    12.78 miles in 2 hrs. 9.23 pace.

Ive managed to do something to my knee.

Quite the concern really. Sore knee which also lead to sore hip and calf. Hoping its a one off bad day. Icing it at the moment. Not sore enough to stop running but not something id like to be running a marathon with.

I'd keep everything super easy between now and the big day and take the odd day off completely.
Ease up those day-to-day runs as much as possible. Nothing to be gained by running them too fast at this stage. Maybe see someone to put your mind at ease. A good thorough massage might do the trick if it's tight calves or IT band or whatever.
    Hope you're better soon.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,088 ✭✭✭LaHaine

Physio diagnosis of tight IT band. Dry needling in a few days. Massage today.

No running for the next few days. Not overly happy about that but not much I can do.

Good call seeing physio. You won't lose any fitness in a few days.
Sit tight (sorry bad turn of phrase:o) and I'm sure you'll be fine in a few days.
    Best of luck!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,088 ✭✭✭LaHaine

Had another physio appointment Thursday. More massage and dry needling.

Haven't done any running. Did a ten mile walk today. Better than nothing.

Another two physio trips next week. Fingers and everything else crossed..

    25 km cycle.

    Tonight:

    3 miles in 28.30.

No pain! Physio again in the morning. On the right road at last!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,088 ✭✭✭LaHaine

Have been resting leg since physio session Wednesday as per her advice. Killed me not running but shes the expert si for once I listened.

    Tonight - 3 miles in 27.20.

Ive no idea what pace to go for now. Was all set on 3.50. Physio says leg is good to go. I missed a few runs of taper but that said I did a ten mile walk and a cycle and ive kept walking a good bit over past week. Surely I cant have lost much fitness?

    Today:

    2 miles. Sloow.

Managed to get caught in a big queue at the expo - and then when I left there was none!!

Ive been thinking a lot about my pace and I really don't know what to do. But im leaning towards starting with 4 hour pacers. Better to start conservative than start to fast and blow up. Or that's the theory anyway.

Great atmosphere at the expo. Really getting exciting now!!

No harm starting out very conservatively. See how the pace feels. If you're starting to think at half way that it's really too slow, then pick it up a bit, but any pace changes you make should be done VERY gradually. If you're feeling really good at 20 miles, step it up another bit.

All the work is done. You've had a great few months training and have a good base behind you. It's normal to be feeling a bit worried.
Best of luck. Rooting for you!!!

    26.2 miles in 4.34.

    What went wrong?

Well the old knee wasn't playing ball after about 6 miles. Gradually got worse and that was that. Second half was me hobbling/jogging/walking.

Part of me is gutted, part is proud I finished. But to be honest the overall feeling is determination that I'm going to do another one and smash it!!

Legs are sore today. Ill take a few days off now and reassess. But im far from beaten. The last time a marathon went wrong I was soo pssed off but this time I just want to do it again. And I will.

Spring marathon 2015 all going well.

Phenomenal support at it. Fair play to everyone who turned up to support.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,088 ✭✭✭LaHaine

No running since marathon. one cycle of about twenty km and a few marathon drinking and eating sessions. Nice t let off some steam. Knee feels ok now. Im foam rolling it a lot to try loosen the IT band.

Tonight I started Insanity. A different challenge. I just did the fitness test and I was banjaxed!

Plan for now is to do Insanity while slowly getting back into the running, stretching and foam rolling as much as possible.

    Onwards and upwards

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,088 ✭✭✭LaHaine

    Last night:

Insanity workout. Phew thats hard going. Puddles of sweat!

    This morning.

    5km in 25.58. 8.38 pace.

First run after the marathon. Knee was ok but tightness in hip and thigh. Ill keep the runds short for now. Seems to get worse with longer runs.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,088 ✭✭✭LaHaine

    Hungover, bleugh..

Finally dragged myself up and out the door

    3 miles in 23.21. 7.46 pace.

Surprisingly ok. Knee felt fine. Hopefully all the stretching and foam rolling is helping.

Really need to buy some new runners. Trip to Amphibian King long overdue.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,088 ✭✭✭LaHaine

    Last week :

    Monday: Insanity cardio power.

    Tuesday: Insanity Cardio recovery

Wednesday: three miles in 24 mins

    Thursday: Insanity pure cardio.

    weekend: Marathon drinking.

    today: Insanity Cardio abs.

Loving Insanity. That being said I want to pick back up the running more now.

Nice chilly morning. Legs felt okay if a little sluggish.

    Last night

    Insanity core and balance.

    Today:

    3 miles in 23.43.

Little bit faster than of late. Very windy which didn't help.

    This morning :

    3 miles in 23.07. 7.41 pace.

Remembering how this running malarkey is done...step by step.

Also managed to sleep in half an hour after my alarm. Got out in the end though. Albeit dreary eyed and cold
