SW payments while working IBEC placement

The IBEC website says candidates for their unpaid internships will only be eligible to receive SW payments while working if they have already been on the dole for at least 3 months. I graduated in May; working fulltime in an unrelated field until 2 weeks ago.

I saw a job I'd love, a 9 month unpaid engineering internship- am I correct in thinking I would be entitled to absolutely nothing from anyone for the entirety of those 9 months, purely because I had a job until now?

Would appreciate if anyone could shed some light on the reasoning behind this, because it seems absolutely insane.
