Hard Drive not always on

I recently installed Windows 7 on my older pc when its XP install got corrupted with a trojan. I kept most of my stuff on the G drive which is a 1TB harddrive, before Windows 7 installation I disconnected it from the Motherboard and reconnected it after the C drive and windows installation was created on the 250GB main harddrive.

However now the harddrive seems to go to sleep every so often and when I go into Computer and select the G Drive I can hear it suddenly coming to life and hear the disks start spinning, it then takes a few seconds before I can actually do anything to it until the hard drive is started up.

My C drive is always on and my G Drive was "always on" before under XP and there was no spinup time needed.

Any ideas on how to stop the G Drive hibernating?

This is most likely something to do with the power settings in Windows 7.

    Give this a try:
    1. Click on the Start menu, type "Power Settings" and press enter.
    2. For the power plan that is selected, click on Change plan settings to the right.
    3. Click on Changed advanced power settings towards the bottom of the window.
    4. Under Hard disk and Turn off hard disk after, verify that the setting is set at "Never". If it's not, set it to 0 minutes.

See if that stops your hard disk from turning off while you're using your computer. :)

Thanks Odaise, indeed it was set to 20mins and I have now set it to never. Weird setting that, hopefully that will sort it now.

I'll post up here tomorrow with my findings! :)
