It's hard to believe that Phil Lynott is 25 years dead today. Tonight's gig was mentioned this morning on Ian Dempsey's show on Today FM. Does anyone know if there are tickets left for tonight's gig?

    Cheers.

As far as I know there is. Well the way Dempsey was going on about it I took it that there were tickets left.

Actually Dave Fanning/Smiley Bolger were discussing it on the radio this morning and they said it was sold out. The vibeforphilo site seems to confirm this. Don't let that put you off heading down if you don't have far to travel though. I'm sure if you ask nicely enough/throw a few euro in someone's direction it wouldnt be too difficult to get in. I'll just do the King's Call thing, without the bottle of wine/gin.

I tried on Ticketmaster's site a while ago, and there was nothing available.

I think I'll do the King's Call thing too, and also without the bottle of wine/gin. :D

    RIP Philo

How did the gig go last night? Any good/bad reports? Did Philomena turn up?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,159 ✭✭✭rednik

Great night until Robbo and band came on stage and the beer started flying. He started playing his own music and the crowd wanted Lizzy. Highlights for me were the Professor playing Black Rose and Glen Hansard playing Jailbreak. Some photos I took.

Reminds me of the Birthday/Statue unveiling gig in the Point when Gary Moore was the headline act and preceeded to play his own stuff too!!! Smacks of arrogance imo. Robbo should quit playing and go to his nearest AA clinic imo. Sad to see such a great guitarist gone that way.....?

Oh, and Philomena looks well too.

reminds me of the 10th anniversary gig in the point when henry rollins came out to recite a poem or say something about phil and was met with overpowering chants of LIZZY. he gave out ****e and walked off.

dont forget the audience can be pricks too.

Eh that was part of the whole "act". Do you not remember him coming straight back onstage and ripping through "Are You Ready"?

yep, but it wasnt straight away, it was a couple of guests later. the hard man is of course part of his act, but he wasnt let say what he wanted to say. he tried to get the audience to listen and they wouldnt.

Can't beat a bit of Pat McManus, the man is a legend! He's from Devil's country too (Virginia, County Cavan). :)

Got a text from a mate of mine who was at last night's gig. Said it was great until Robbo came on and started doing some of his own material. Said he got beer and water chucked at him!!

Was that the year where Andy Cairns came out and sang Bad Reputation?

If so, then it was part of the act going by interviews Rollins gave afterwards and comments made by him during one of his spoken word tours.

He's actually from Derrylin Co. Fermanagh but it doesnt stop him being absolutely amazing, i be astounded everytime i see him

Highlight of the night was easily the Pat McManus band, he was amazing! just blew me away!

The acoustic guy, Tony Powell from Ohio was good too, i was really impressed with him. He was playing a few songs last night in the Gypsy Rose too with Jimmp Coup etc - Angel from the coast, Fools gold and Honesty is no excuse, the kind of songs you never usually hear!

    His site is here

Some nice covers to listen or download, he will be putting more up soon apparently.

The Robbo thing was a disgrace from the band and the gob****es in the crowd who were hurling the beer/water whatever it was, it wouldn't want to be beer at the price you pay!
I don't mind a band playing a few of their own tracks, if Smiley is to be believed they were gonna play 8 Lizzy and 4 of their own. However they went it about it the wrong way, playing too much of their own too soon (I actually thought the music was ok). They done a great job of clearing the place. Then when they did play Lizzy it came across as them only doing it because of the pressure to, it was half arsed anyways and their version of "Running Back" is an abomination.

Robbo missed his flight the next day too, got there 2 mins after the gate closed apparently to top of a disaster of a visit from him!

Okay, pardon me, lives in Virginia, has done since the final years of Mama's Boys. The man's a legend on guitar, his shows are top notch too, never seen a bad one from him.

    Thats more like it :D

Ive seen him a serious amount of times at this stage too and i aint ever seen a bad one either, surely he is bound to have an off night at some point, but it would appear not. Juggernaut is just sheer genius altogether.
