When you think about it given the amount of anime thats made every year does it annoy you that you probably wont have time to watch it all?

For me keeping up with hulu and crunchroll is difficult enough...and thats not to mention other places too!! I guess what im getting at is infomation overload of anime-for me theres simply too much to watch-ive got a huge backlog of things ive havent even looked at yet over the past decade(based on ANN reviews).

How do you decide what to watch and what to steer clear of?

Oh, I totally agree - in the respect that there's always something I want to watch. I just don't have enough hours in the day to watch anime all the time - not to mention a stupidly short attention span :( So yea, sometimes having a constant backlog just annoys me.

That said, I think it's great that there's so much anime available to watch - it really means that there is something for everything. It would suck if the choice was more limited.

Regarding picking anime to watch - I generally go by friend's recommendations, anime that I hear is similiar to other ones that I like, a series that sounds interesting from reading the synopsis and reading internet reviews. Yes I wish I could watch more than I do at the moment but having so much choice is pretty awesome.

What annoys me more is when you start a series, catch up to when its broadcasting and then completely forget to watch it.

Yes, in the same way that it bothers me that I won't have time to learn everything I want to learn, visit everywhere I want to visit, experience everything I want to, or have wild sex with all the pretty ladies I want to. :(

More choice = good, I'd be far more annoyed (am far more annoyed) if a season doesn't have any good anime on.

Most of the stuff is crap anyway, so I'm happy not to be watching it! Generally, I work by what subbers are doing, or off recommendations from friends.

Then there are 20-30 classics which a man has to watch :P

I don't mind the amount of choice so much as those on going series that have over two hundred episodes! You have to watch several episodes a day for months just to catch up with the story, and by that point I'm usually so sick of the show that I don't watch it again for a year so when I go back there's another fifty episodes to watch!

Well, if they're anything like DBZ you just need to watch every 20th episode to get all the plot development and action.

Or watch the abridged series of DBZ. I'm going by what someone else told me at Eirtakon, but apparently it is pretty much the story condensed and made funny :D

Back on topic. Not really. I have only ever liked one or two anime in every season and I haven't watched a series as it aired since Soul Eater (or was that the only one :O ). I usually like to get recommendations and just look around before I settle on an anime... First impressions are pretty important, as if it doesn't hook me in 3 episodes, I generally give up.

Outlaw Star and Last Exile have hooked me right now.
Ghost Hound didn't. I might go back and watch more... but it kinda feels stale. The "interesting" thing happened so it could get better from now on, but the start was so damn slow.

    tl;dr
I look up the season previews but usually end up ignoring them while searching for anime I like, so it doesn't annoy me. I also like the choice it brings :D

Have to say that it doesn't annoy. It would be much much more irritating if I didn't have access to so much. I remember having to watch Cowboy Bebop on German channels through Satellite (way back before sky boxes) because dail-up wasn't even around, nor was the knock off video tapes which I hear so much people talking about.

The beauty of Animation as a medium is that there's something for everyone these days so I wouldn't even attempt to watch everything, because if I did I'd probably try and run through it without enjoying a series.

Most of what's released is trash so naw, not really. When you think about the fact Highschool of the Dead was one of the better animes last year, it does not say a lot for the rest.

  • Registered Users Posts: 773 ✭✭✭Cy_Revenant

I've never been bothered at all by the sheer volume of works aired every season.

Trying to catch them all would be complete madness, as well as pointless.

Most of the stuff released every season is complete muck.

What annoys me is that 98% of it is ****e, and when you hear about something that sounds like it's great, you can't find it online(Not a chance of me buying something before watching at least two episodes) in half decent quality.

  • Registered Users Posts: 945 ✭✭✭gearoidof

@Finalpost I have yet to find a single anime I can't watch online.
Boxtorrents (which is now renamed, so surely I can talk about them? :P) has all anime which isn't licenced by Funimation, and the rest can be found through a quick google or off fansubbers.

and @ThomasG, there were at least 4 or 5 classic series last year! And HOTD was actually very good for what it was. The only reason people dislike it is because they expect a zombie anime, whereas it's just a zombie themed ecchi anime!

It was bad porno with zombies in the background. And yeah, all Anime can be found, but it's not not always watchable due to desynched audio and horrible framerate.

It was excellent ecchi, I thought!

And PM me what you're looking for, and I'm sure I can help you!

Depends where you get it from, the aforementioned site has some stunning quality stuff, the Tengen Toppa Gurren Lageen torrent I got was over 40GB big, amazing quality

Maybe you're all correct about Anime being available and I just amn't looking in the right places, but you do have to admit that with the sheer amount of crap they're putting out recently makes it harder to find what you're looking for.

(Off topic: does this forum always have so many trolls and spammers?)

    Tatami Galaxy
    Panty and Stocking
    Bakemonogatari (technically counts, I say)
    Squid Girl
    Giant Killing
    Angel Beats!
    Durarararararararararararara
    Hanamaru Kindergarten
    Nodame Cantibile Finale

They were all pretty good series, I thought!
Classics are tatami, psg, bakemono Dulalalala

Hmmm I think our perception of good greatly differs. I would call PSG toilet humor, but I think that's fairly obvious since the first episode featured a poo monster.

I think there is too much choice for me. I don't know what to start watching next :/

And I know there is better anime than what is in my to-watch list on MAL

    This is an oxymoron.

For my part, when I'm looking at the new things being aired every season, I tend to avoid anything that looks like it might be a harem comedy. That way, I can ignore 90% of releases and presumably miss out on most of the rubbish. :D

Other than that, I've started to pick things based on the studio and staff. I started watching Star Driver based completely on the fact that it was from Bones and the entire staff had worked on a bunch of great stuff in the past.

I started on Panty & Stocking against my initial impression because it had most of the team behind TTGL working on it.

I only started watching Katanagatari when I read that it was by the same author as Bakemonogatari, and I had only tried that one because it was animated by Shaft.

I'm sure I'm going to miss out on some stuff that's well worth watching when I make my picks like this, but it's served me well so far.

Unfortunately, yes. A&M is the first forum listed on boards.ie so it's a breeding ground for spambots >_< Don't generally get as much trolling though - this is a new phenomenon :pac:

    all fair points.

PSG isn't exactly high brow or anything, but it's entertainment. It's all very tongue in cheek, their transformers episode especially so.

I suppose I can think of 100 classic series out there, so it's very possible my defintion of classics is a bit lighter than others, alright. But my point was just that HOTD isn't really one of the better animes.
It was one of the better zombie ecchis out there, ya, that's about it.

P.S. The soundtrack of PSG is a whole new level of awesome.

Its not so much how much anime every year is made, because I find I will only really be interested in 1 or 3 releases every season, which is easy to watch. What annoys me the most is that there is so much past anime that I haven't seen that I have feel I must see. Another annoying thing is having a crappy 30g download limit! Anime's are getting higher quality these days, and for some of the newer ones I find that all the torrents are in 780p HD or whatever. :(

I know the feeling, it's like that back home for me. Ah well, if you're ever in Galway give me a shout, I've 700GB and counting of mostly HD and Bluray anime for the pickings :)

To be honest it use to annoy me as when I was in the DCU anime manga society and being around anime fans everyone was talking about Haruhi Suzimiya (back in the day) and all the new anime and I was like "huh"? I felt I was way behind. I just can't keep up and and I am terrible with sticking to the one series, I tend to watch one episode of an anime, go off and watch other series then come back. I am the same with books.

As for new anime HSOD (only watched 2 episodes so far yet to watch the rest) and Panty and Stocking with Gartherbelt (only watched 2 episodes yet to watch the rest) are as new as it gets with me. I am and have aways been very selective when it comes to anime and will only watch the ones that really appeal to me so it doesn't annoy me anymore that I can't keep up, unless everyone is talking about that one anime like K-on which doesn't appeal to me and I get a little curious.

I am with you there. I have yet to watch Cowboy Bebop fully, Martian Successor Nadesico, Devilman, Akira and fully get around to finish watching Great Teacher Onizuka. I am sure I am missing out many classics.
